The 9P117 SCUD-B is a ballistic missile launcher vehicle featured in both ArmA: Cold War Assault and ArmA 2.
ArmA: Cold War Assault[]
The SCUD is used exclusively by Soviet military forces in ArmA: Cold War Assault.
Overview[]
- Role:
- Ballistic missile launcher
« | This mobile wheeled launcher is capable of firing long-range ground-to-ground SCUD missile from far behind enemy lines. The Russian-made missile itself is capable of delivering high explosive, chemical or even nuclear warheads with devastating accuracy. Vehicle Description

Design[]
The SCUD is a Soviet-made heavy artillery weapon that was employed at the height of the Cold War. It combines a powerful tactical ballistic missile that is mounted onto an 8x8 truck.
It is completely non-functional in regular gameplay[note 1], as the SCUD is mostly intended as a priority objective that must be destroyed in order to complete a mission.[1]
Drawbacks
As is to be expected from a vehicle of its size, the handling for the Transport Erector Launcher (TEL) itself is very poor due to the length of the vehicle's body. Even a simple turn requires a lot of room for the SCUD to manoeuvre around. Naturally it also lacks any sort of armour plating, meaning that even a small amount of small arms fire can easily damage or outright destroy the SCUD.
Crew Capacity
The SCUD has a maximum crew capacity of four, consisting of the driver and up to three passengers.
Protection[]
The SCUD has 40 points worth of armour plating.[CWCfgV 4]
Trivia[]
- Cold War Assault's SCUD is modelled after the real-world "MAZ-543" truck designed by the Belarus-based Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ).
- Its missile can be commanded to be launched (via script), but the whole sequence is entirely animated and is not considered to be an actual functional weapon.[2][3][4][5]
- Prior to Patch 1.40 for Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (the original title of Cold War Assault before its re-release), the SCUD had the ability to transport up to four passengers instead of three. However, this was actually a bug as the fourth passenger's seat was not defined in the vehicle's config (the fourth passenger would be seated in an "invisible" position).[6]

ArmA 2[]
The 9P117 SCUD-B is used exclusively by the Takistani Army in ArmA 2. It was added with the release of the Operation Arrowhead expansion pack.
Overview[]
- Role:
- Ballistic missile launcher
« | The Scud is a series of tactical ballistic missiles developed by the Soviets during the Cold War. The Scud-B is the most prolifically launched of the series, with a production run estimated at 7,000. The Scud-B is mounted atop of the 9P117 Uragan vehicle. The missile is raised to a vertical position by means of hydraulically-powered cranes, which usually takes four minutes, while the total sequence lasts about one hour. Armoury Description

Design[]
The 9P117 is exclusively used by the Takistani Army. Like its Cold War-era predecessor, the 9P117 is not intended to be a functional vehicle and is merely designed to be an interactive prop that can be driven but can't actually be used to attack any targets with.[note 2]
Destroying the Takistani Army's SCUD TELs before they could be fuelled and launched is the primary objective of the U.S.-led Task Force Knight in the final mission of the Operation Arrowhead campaign.[7]
Crew Capacity
The 9P117 is only capable of transporting the driver and three more passengers, who are all seated inside sealed cabins at both ends of the vehicle (to the front). It cannot carry any additional crewmen.
Protection[]
The 9P117 has a base armour value of 30.[A2CfgV 5]
Successful strikes to any of the following highlighted sections will inflict full damage to the component:
Body[]
The vehicle body can take up to 30 points of damage before its integrity fails.[A2CfgV 6][Formula 1] Depletion of its integrity will always result in a catastrophic kill.[A2CfgV 7]
Engine[]
The engine can withstand up to 12 points of damage before it fails.[A2CfgV 8][Formula 2] At least 20% of incoming damage will be shared with the vehicle's main "health" pool.[A2CfgV 9]
Fuel tank[]
The fuel tank can only take a maximum of 9 points of damage before it ruptures.[A2CfgV 10][Formula 3] At least 50% of incoming damage is shared with the vehicle's main "health" pool.[A2CfgV 11]
Wheels[]
Each wheel can only take up to 9 points of damage before their tyres burst.[A2CfgV 12][A2CfgV 13][Formula 4] At least 30% of damage inflicted upon any of the wheels will be shared with the vehicle's main "health" pool.[A2CfgV 14][A2CfgV 15]
Trivia[]
- Like in Cold War Assault, ArmA 2's 9P117 is modelled after the same "MAZ-543" truck.
- Although the 9P117 can be seen "firing" its SCUD should the player fail to stop them from launching in time in Eye of the Hurricane, the missile is simply an animated object that is not an actual projectile.[8][9][10]

Notes[]
ArmA: Cold War Assault[]
Animation sequence - Preparation[]
this action ["SCUD Launch"];
Animation sequence - Launch[]
this action ["SCUD Start"];
Caveats[]
- Action names for initiating each sequence should not be confused with the other (i.e. "SCUD Launch" is not actually used to fire the missile).
- It is recommended that these scripting commands be used in a standalone Status Quo Script (SQS) that is activated by trigger with "this" being replaced by the variable name of the vehicle.
- This SQS file (activated by a trigger) can then impose a delay of approximately 10 seconds, thereby giving the launcher's animation enough time to smoothly transition between the preparation and launch phases.
- The SCUD must be manned in order for the scripting command to work properly. If no human or AI-controlled unit is available, triggers with a Game Logic can also be used in lieu of an actual crewman.
ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead[]
Animation sequence - Preparation and launch[]
this action ["SCUDStart", this];
Caveats[]
- Unlike in Cold War Assault, ArmA 2's SCUD-B does not require a separate trigger to smoothly play the entire sequence. The "SCUDStart" action will initiate the entire animation cycle (from preparation to launch).
- The SCUD-B must be manned in order for the scripting command to work properly. If no human or AI-controlled unit is available, triggers with a Game Logic can also be used in lieu of an actual crewman.
