The AH-1F is a medium attack helicopter used by both U.S. military forces and the AFMC in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the CSLA Iron Curtain Creator DLC.

Overview[]

  • Role:
    • Medium gunship

Design[]

This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.

The 'F' variant is another iteration in the single-engined family of AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters. It features an improved fire control system, upgraded sights, and a rangefinder.

Armament
By default, the AH-1F is armed with a 20 mm rotary cannon fitted onto an external gun turret located beneath the helicopter's nose. It is pre-loaded with a single 750-round belt loaded with armour-piercing (AP) shells.

It has a total of four pylons (two on each wing) available for the stub wings on both sides the fuselage that support dynamic loadouts.

AH-1F pylon configuration

  • The two innermost pylons closest to the fuselage support the following munitions (1, 2):
    • M151 HEDP (7×)
    • M151 HEDP (19×)
    • M229 HEDP (7×)
    • M229 HEDP (19×)
    • M247 HEAT (7×)
    • M247 HEAT (19×)
    • M255 APERS (7×)
    • M255 APERS (19×)
  • The outermost pylons (3, 4) can only be armed with one type of ordnance:
    • TOW ATM (4×)

The AH-1F's fire control systems uniquely include an integrated rangefinder. The camera is also able to toggle night vision for low-light operations. Any launched TOW ATGMs can be guided directly via the gun turret's camera.

Mobility
Compared to the Mi-24V, the AH-1F is significantly slower and will struggle to reach its top speed due to its single engine design. It suffers from stiff handling and is unable to make sharp mid-air turns without losing speed.

Crew Capacity
The AH-1F supports a crew of two consisting of the pilot and a gunner. It is unable to transport any passengers.

AFMC[]

American[]

Protection[]

The AH-1F has a base armour value of 66.

Hull[]

Hull damage is calculated based on the integrity of other components on the AH-1F. Until all other parts of the helicopter have been critically damaged, the hull itself can never be "destroyed".

Engines[]

The AH-1F's engine can withstand up to 49.5 points of damage. 100% of incoming damage is shared with the helicopter's main "health" pool.

Fuel tank[]

The AH-1F's fuel tanks can only survive a maximum of 26.4 points of damage before they rupture. At least 50% of incoming damage will be shared with the helicopter's "health" pool.

Instruments[]

Consists of the pilot/gunner flight instruments, Multi-Functional Displays (MFD) and Heads-Up Display (HMD). They can incur a maximum of 49.5 points of damage before failing. 100% of incoming damage to any of these components will be fully shared with the helicopter's main "health" pool.

Main rotor[]

The main rotor can incur 247.5 points of damage before failing. 99% of damage inflicted onto the main rotor will be shared with the helicopter's main "health" pool.

A disabled main rotor makes it difficult to maintain the AH-1F's lift. Unless the tail rotor has also been disabled however, the AH-1F can still be controlled to a limited degree at low airspeeds.

Tail rotor[]

The tail rotor is able to resist up to 153.78 points of damage before it fails. Only 20% of damage inflicted will be shared with the helicopter's "health" pool.

A disabled tail rotor will drastically increase torque from the main rotor. At low airspeeds, the AH-1F will become extremely difficult to control due to constant yaw shifting to one side.

Stealth[]

The AH-1F partially retains stealthy attributes, but only against radars and infrared-based sensors:

RCS[]

The AH-1F has a radar cross-section rating of 0.7 and can only be detected at 70% of an active radar maximum range (reduction of 30%).

IR[]

The AH-1F has an infrared signature rating of 0.8 and can only be detected at 80% of an infrared-based sensor's maximum range (reduction of 20%).

Visual[]

The AH-1F does not apply any reductions to visual-based sensors and can be tracked at full ranges.

Sensors[]

The AH-1F only has access to one type of sensor:

Sensor type Max range (Air/Ground) Min range (Air/Ground) Affected by environment? Target max speed (km/h) Azimuth coverage (°) Elevation coverage (°) Friendly identification range (m)
Visual A: 3,000 m
G: 2,000 m
A: 500 m
G: 500 m
Fog/Light (6%) 252 km/h 26° 26° 2,000 m

Visual Sensor[]

The AH-1F's Visual Sensor is located in the gun turret camera. The Visual Sensor can be affected by heavy fog and can lose up to 6% of its range depending on its thickness. The Visual Sensor becomes completely blind at nighttime and very low-light conditions.

Components[]

NOTE: Cosmetic-only component modules with no gameplay effects are deliberately excluded from this section.

  • Countermeasure on Tail: Affixes a defensive countermeasure pod on the AH-1F's tail. Removing this launcher pod will disable the pilot's ability to deploy flares and chaff.

Armament[]

NOTE: Only the weapons used on the default loadout for the AH-1F are listed here. For full details on ordnance that can be mounted on the AH-1F's pylons, refer to the dynamic loadouts article.

The AH-1F's gunner controls the primary M197 20 mm rotary cannon and stub wing TOW ATM missiles. On the other hand, the pilot exclusively retains access over the stub wing's twin M261 rocket launcher pods.

For optics, the gunner's turret camera can switch between two fields of view and is able to alternate between regular day and night vision modes:

M197[]

Arma3-vehicleweapons-cslaicah1f-m197
Base damage value Aerodynamic friction Initial velocity (m/s) Penetration depth (mm)
90 -0.000774 1,036 69.93

20 mm rotary cannon. Loaded with armour-piercing (AP) shells.

It can attain a fire rate of up to 1,500 rounds per minute. Accuracy-wise, it has a dispersion of 0.0022 rad. The shells have a spill radius of 0.5 metres and can penetrate approximately ~ 69 millimetres of armour plating.

M261[]

Arma3-vehicleweapons-cslaicah1f-m261
Main article: Dynamic loadouts (CSLA)#M255 APERS

Rocket launcher pod. It is loaded with unguided air-to-ground anti-personnel 70 mm rockets.

TOW ATM[]

Arma3-vehicleweapons-cslaicah1f-towatm
Warhead Base damage value Proximity fuse radius (metres) Maximum speed (m/s)
Primary (HE) 110 10 296
Secondary (HEAT) 900 N/A N/A

Air-to-ground anti-tank missile. They can be manually guided up to a maximum distance of 3,750 metres.

Missiles are always launched with an initial velocity of 50 m/s. After 0.151 seconds have passed, the missile's motor will ignite and take a further 1.45 seconds to reach a maximum in-flight speed of 296 m/s.

The primary warhead is purely high-explosive (HE) based. It has a proximity fuse radius of 10 metres and has a blast radius of only 1.2 metres. Its secondary submunition is high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) based but is purely kinetic. It can penetrate up to 375 millimetres of armour plating and has a spill radius of 0.1 metres.

Trivia[]

  • The AH-1F was not originally available as part of CSLA's launch assets and was only added after Update 1.1.[1]
The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
  • There is an unused variant of the AH-1 that is designated as the AH-1T (Classname: US85_AH1T).
    • However, it does not have a functional model and cannot be utilised in regular gameplay even if spawned with scripting commands. Its naming scheme also suggests that it is an AFMC-exclusive asset, but the helicopter is actually assigned to the default U.S. military faction.
