The AKM is a 7.62 mm assault rifle used exclusively by Polish military forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.
Overview
The AKM is a selective-fire, gas operated assault rifle with a rotating bolt that is chambered to fire the 7.62×39 mm round.
It loads from 30-round curved magazines but can optionally load 75-round drums as well. It can attain a fire rate of up to 600 rounds per minute and retains a muzzle velocity of 715 m/s. The AKM does not support being fitted with any accessories other than night sights, but can mount bayonets onto the lug beneath the barrel.
The standard-issue weapon of all Polish infantry squads, the AKM combines the stopping power of the 7.62 mm cartridge while remaining as light to wield as the AK-74 rifle.
Compared to the West German G3, the AKM shares almost identical statistics when it comes to recoil, with the AKM having fairly significant muzzle climb. Where the AKM shines is its rate of fire and weight; the former is slightly greater at 600 RPM (versus the G3A3/A4's ~ 550 RPM) while in the case of the latter, it weighs almost 30 "mass" less.
Its only real disadvantages stem from its poorer accuracy at longer distances due to having greater dispersion. The inability to mount optical scopes (an issue addressed by its AKMN sub-variant) or sound suppressors, since the AKM lacks a threaded barrel, is also a drawback it suffers from. In all other areas however, the AKM remains far superior to the G3 in almost every aspect.
Variants
AKMN
The AKMN is statistically identical to the baseline AKM.
Aesthetically, it's similar to the AKM but the sole difference is that it has been modified with a dovetail mount integrated onto the receiver.
This allows the user to attach riflescopes like the ZFK 4x25 or any other compatible optic, rendering the AKM slightly more useful in longer ranged firefights.
There are otherwise no functional or statistical differences to the regular AKM rifle.
Ammunition
NOTE: The AKM is capable of loading the same magazines utilised by non-Global Mobilization 7.62 mm-chambered weapons. To minimise clutter, they are deliberately excluded from this section.
Round name | Base damage value | Aerodynamic friction | Initial velocity (m/s) | Penetration depth (mm) |
---|---|---|---|---|
57-N-231 | 13.76 | -0.00097081 | 715 | 9.65 |
57-N-231P | 13.76 | -0.00097081 | 715 | 9.65 |
7N23 | 17.76 | -0.00097081 | 715 | 16.0875 |
The AKM can load ten types of magazines which are interchangeable with other Warsaw Pact 7.62×39 mm-chambered weapons. The 30-round curved magazines weigh a total of 12.24 "mass" while the larger 75-round drums weigh 18.35 units instead:
7.62 mm 30Rnd Ball 57N231 Mag
Standard 30-round curved steel magazine loaded with 7.62 mm ball ammunition.
7.62 mm 30Rnd Ball-T 57N231P Mag
Tracer magazine.
7.62 mm 30Rnd AP 7N23 Mag
Special magazine loaded with armour-piercing ammunition.
7.62 mm 30Rnd Ball M43 Mag
Alternate 30-round steel magazine loaded with older ammunition.
It is statistically identical to regular 30-rounders.
7.62 mm 30Rnd Ball-T M43 Mag
Alternate tracer magazine loaded with older tracer rounds.
Remains identical (statistically) to regular 30-round tracer magazines.
7.62 mm 75Rnd Ball 57N231 Mag
75-round drum used by the RPK light support weapon.
7.62 mm 75Rnd Ball-T 57N231P Mag
Tracer drum magazine.
7.62 mm 75Rnd AP 7N23 Mag
Special drum magazine loaded with armour-piercing ammunition.
7.62 mm 75Rnd Ball M43 Mag
Alternate 75-round drum magazine loaded with older ammunition.
It is statistically identical to regular 75-rounders.
7.62 mm 75Rnd Ball-T M43 Mag
Alternate tracer drum magazine loaded with older tracer rounds.
Remains identical (statistically) to regular 75-round tracer drums.
Trivia
- The AKM was only added after Update 1.1, and was not actually available on Global Mobilization's initial release.
- Alongside the MPi KM-72, the AKM strangely retained the exact same dispersion values as the G3 upon its addition. This was eventually patched after the release of Update 1.1.3844, which corrected the AKM's dispersion and made it less accurate compared to the G3.
