The APP is a hybrid weapon-mounted torch/sight in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.
Design[]
The APP utilises a Claw-type mounting system and is supported on the following weapon platforms:
- G3 battle rifle* (7.62 mm)
- G33 assault rifle (5.56 mm; all variants)
- G8A1/MG8A1 precision machine gun** (7.62 mm)
- G53 assault rifle (5.56 mm; all variants)
- GV M/75 battle rifle (7.62 mm; both variants)
- Mp M/85 assault rifle (5.56 mm)
- SG5 submachine gun (9 mm; all variants)
(*) Cannot be attached to G3 variants that utilise a RIS mounting system.
(**) Not compatible with the G8A2 and MG8A2 due to both using a Flat-type mounting system.
The APP essentially functions as a giant flashlight that projects a spotlight beam with a white dot in the centre. The white dot will only be projected up to a maximum distance of 60 metres. Beyond this distance, only the flashlight's beam will remain visible.
"Aiming" with the APP simply uses the weapon's ironsights (if they are available). Zeroing can be adjusted, though it is restricted to a minimum of 100 m up to a maximum of 400 m. It is not possible to change zeroing settings beyond 400 m even if the weapon's ironsights allow for a greater limit.
Trivia[]
- The APP is modelled after the real-world "Zielpunktprojektor" (ZPP), although the in-game APP projects a white dot as opposed to a black one like on real ZPPs.[1]
- The in-game APP is unique for combining traits from three types of accessories into a single platform: 1. it is an optical sight, 2. serves as a flashlight, 3. projects a visible dot for aiming with (which is actually considered to be a visible "laser" spot/beam within the context of the game's engine).
- It was not originally featured as a usable attachment at release and was only added in Update 1.5.[2]
