« | Full-face Air Purifying Respirators (APR) are a first line of defense against some forms of CBRN threats. They rely on manual breathing through special filters (one is typically plugged in to allow shouldering a weapon). Most designs also feature connectors for drinking canteens and communications equipment. APRs are available for both NATO and CSAT forces. Note: this gear is primarily cosmetic; limited features are only available in the context of Contact's campaign and gameplay. Field Manual[1]

Air Purifying Respirators (short form: APR) are gas masks worn by multiple factions in ArmA 3. They were added with the release of the Contact DLC.
Overview[]
Used by NATO, LDF, CSAT and Russian military scientists/specialist infantry personnel, these full face Air Purifying Respirators (APR) are designed to protect the wearer from NBC hazards. Regardless of model, all APRs share the same weight of 8 "mass" units.[CfgGs 1]
They rely on manual breathing through special filters (one is typically plugged in to allow shouldering a weapon). Most designs also feature connectors to allow for drinking canteens and/or communications headsets to be attached onto them.
Camouflage[]
NOTE: NATO APRs are restricted to using only a Black camouflage scheme.
- Black: Matte/chrome black colour scheme.
- Olive: Olive green colour scheme.
- Sand: Khaki brown colour scheme.
Trivia[]
- BLUFOR/INDFOR APRs are based on the real-world "M50 Joint Service General Purpose Mask" (JSGPM) widely used by the U.S. military.[2]
- The REDFOR APR is modelled after the "PMK" series of panoramic full face gas masks in limited use with the Russian Armed Forces and some internal security services.[3]
- APRs are purely cosmetic and do not have any gameplay use outside of the First Contact campaign and other scripted mini-campaigns/scenarios.
- There are alternate variants of the APR that lack the chemical filters fitted onto the mask itself. They cannot be used in-game without resorting to scripting commands or custom addons, however.
- The APR's unique first person overlay from the non-canon First Contact campaign was originally exclusive to the campaign's files. It was eventually ported over to the base game's assets[4] but can only be enabled in custom addons or through the use of scripting commands.[5][6]
