The ARCO (full name: Advanced Rifle Combat Optics) is a low-powered riflescope used by both CSAT forces and Viper units, along with Russian Spetsnaz operatives in ArmA 3.
Design[]
The ARCO has a fixed zeroing range of 300 m for its thermally transparent (i.e. thermally hot targets will be visible in thermal vision mode) primary scope and a magnification strength of 2x.
It uses a crosshair reticle with an illuminated chevron, but the reticle will not be visible in thermal vision. It is optimised for use with 6.5 mm-chambered firearms (both caseless and cased). This includes:
- The AK-12 series of modular rifles (7.62 mm; all sub-variants)
- CMR-76 bullpup marksman rifle (6.5 mm)
- Katiba bullpup rifle (6.5 mm)
- Mk200 light machine gun (6.5 mm)
- The MX series of modular rifles (6.5 mm; all sub-variants)
- The Promet series of modular bullpups (6.5 mm; all sub-variants)
- Type 115 special purpose rifle (6.5 mm-chambered rifle component only; does not apply to the underbarrel .50 BW anti-materiel rifle module)
The ARCO has a backup collimator sight fitted above the primary scope for use in close quarters. The backup collimator is set to a zeroing of 200 m and is also thermally transparent.
Variants[]
- ARCO AK: Unique variant optimised specifically for the AK-12's 7.62×39 mm cartridge. Aside from its reticle, its model remains identical to regular non-AK ARCOs.
Camouflage[]
- Black: Black paint finish. Used by both Mediterranean and North African CSAT forces.
- Sand: Desert sand paint finish. Utilised by Viper Team operatives.
- Green Hex: Tropical Hexacam camouflage pattern. Exclusive to Pacific CSAT marksmen.
- Arid: Desert camouflage pattern.
- Lush: Woodland camouflage pattern. Exclusively utilised by Russian Spetsnaz operatives.
Trivia[]
- The ARCO is seemingly based on the real-life "SpecterOS 4x", a combat optical sight made by Canada-based company ELCAN Optical Technologies.[1]
- The top mount sight on the other hand appears to be based on the "DOCTERsight II plus" manufactured by DOCTER Optics of Germany.
- The Black and Green Hex versions were not originally available and were only included with the Apex expansion.[2] Meanwhile, the dedicated AK scope variants and Arid/Lush finishes would not be added until the Contact expansion pack's release.[3]
- After the Marksmen DLC's release, the ARCO's collimator sight was upgraded to make use of the then-new collimator tunnelling effect[4] for its reticle (as part of Game Update 1.42).[5]
- When depth of field was enabled, the reticle markings on the primary scope would become extremely blurry and difficult to read under certain lighting conditions. This was eventually addressed in a hotfix to Game Update 2.02 which corrected the ARCO's model to use radial blurring instead (separate from the game's DoF settings).[6]
- The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
- When ArmA 3's Alpha was initially released, the ARCO functioned as an ArmA 2-style 2D scope rather than 3D. This was changed after the Beta's release to its current 3D-style model.[7] Though it is no longer used, its original 2D-style scope reticle is still hidden in the game files[8] and can be restored with a custom addon.
