Armed Assault Wiki

The AWS is a night vision scope used exclusively by the British Army in ArmA 2. It was added with the release of the British Armed Forces DLC.

Design[]

This is a premium asset that requires ownership of the British Armed Forces DLC.

The AWS is a medium-ranged night vision scope. It is exclusively mounted onto one weapon platform:

  • L85A2 bullpup assault rifle (5.56 mm)

The scope uses a fixed magnification of 4x zoom[CfgWp 1][CfgWp 2][Formula 1] and zeroing of 300 m.[CfgWp 3][CfgWp 4] Neither its magnification nor its zeroing can be manually adjusted.[CfgWp 5]

It should be noted that the AWS is restricted to only night vision and unable switch to a non-enhanced day vision mode.[CfgWp 6][CfgWp 7] The reticle is partially illuminated, though only the centre of the crosshair's bars will be visible under low-light conditions.

Trivia[]

  • The AWS is modelled after the real-world British-made "Common Weapon Sight" (CWS) designed by Qioptiq, a subsidiary of the Excelitas Technologies Corp.[1]
  • Prior to the latest Steam version patches (CorePatch), the AWS was classified as a thermal scope that had the ability to switch between a red-hot thermal and night vision mode.
    • Its thermal vision mode was subsequently disabled, making it exclusively a night vision-only optic. It was also possible to manually adjust zeroing up to a maximum of 800 m. This too was disabled by ArmA 2's End-of-Life (EOL) patches.[2]
