Main article: Operation Arrowhead (conflict)

On June 1st, 2012, the U.S.-led NATO coalition commenced offensive military operations in neighbouring Takistan in response to the Aziz regime's refusal to back down from its threat to annex territories in Karzeghistan.[2][3]

In the days that followed, Ardistan would experience a refugee crisis due to the sudden surge in the number of refugees fleeing across the Ardistan-Takistan border.[4][5][6]

Geography

Ardistan is bordered to the west of Takistan and Karzeghistan in the south.[1]

Trivia

  • Ardistan was first mentioned in ArmA 2's Operation Arrowhead expansion pack. However, the country itself has never been physically represented in a playable terrain format nor has it been depicted on news reports.
  • In the alternate (non-canonical) endings to ArmA 2's Operation Arrowhead campaign, Ardistan is one of the potential locations that the main antagonist of the campaign will attempt to flee to if they are permitted to escape.[7][8]
  • The country is briefly mentioned by Captain Ivan Severov of the Russian Spetsnaz's 223rd Special Purpose Detachment in ArmA 3's non-canonical First Contact campaign, though what events he was referring to remains unclear.[9]
  • On a Twitch livestream event held on March 8th, 2023[10], Bohemia Interactive developer Ivan Buchta stated that Ardistan was originally considered as one of the potential candidate names for Takistan as far back as 2006.[11]
