A FFL soldier poses for a photo whilst distributing aid to Arganan refugees (2000)
In the year 2000, the nation experienced widespread civil unrest. The instability sparked a major refugee crisis throughout West Africa.[2]
At the height of the crisis, a contingent of French Foreign Legionnaires crossed over the Western Saharan Berm to help distribute aid to 11,000 refugees attempting to flee from the fighting.[2]
Politics
Diplomacy
As of 2035, the country's diplomatic alignment to either the East or the West is not known.[note 2]
SPIN-OFF: The following information stems from a spin-off expansion or third party Creator DLC and is considered to be non-canon in the main Armaverse timeline.
SPINOFF INFORMATION
A map provided by the third party DLC depicts Argana's location.
The third party-developed Creator DLC, Western Sahara, provides additional background history concerning the country's origins[3][4] and diplomatic ties to the CSAT alliance.[5]
Additionally, this extends to its involvement with the events of the Stepping Stone mini-campaign/scenario from the Tac-Ops DLC, as well as the country being embroiled in a proxy war between NATO and CSAT.
However, as the DLC is only considered a "canon-compatible" but not explicitly canonical product[6], the DLC's history into the background of the country's past and present currently remains non-canonical.
Trivia
Arganan forces are implied to be North African CSAT troops stationed on Malden, though this has yet to be explicitly confirmed.[1]

Demographically, it is dominated by the indigenous Amatu and Laba people, but it is also home to a culturally diverse mix of other ethnic groups. Following independence, Argana has suffered years of internal strife, as well as conflicts with neighboring states. ↑van 't Land, J.J. 2022, The Rotators Collective have worked very hard to follow Arma 3 lore to pretty extreme details, such as following up on clues on obscure whiteboards in our vanilla content. Our Narrative Designer Scott Alsworth has also provided some limited consultancy on the writing.
