The official site describes a variety of player-controlled vehicles that will be available in ARMA 3.

Armored vehicles

Overview of armored vehicles.

  • Armored vehicles are scarcer, which is counterbalanced by the increased fighting capability and crew survivability.
  • Main battle tanks usually provide additional active protection.
  • The most recent weapon platforms using some of the newly developed arms technology can be expected to appear in the battles.

Light armor

Examples of light armor vehicles.

Light armor has the weakest armor and weakest weapons - nothing more than a .50cal MG and a grenade launcher is typical for this class. Hunter or Panther MRAPs with their HMG and GMGs fit this, while older weapon systems like Strykers, AAVs, uparmored HMMWVs, and M113s fall into the light armor class as well. Light armor offers effective protection against small-arms fire but generally is vulnerable to anti-tank weapons like RPGs and various types of explosives.[1]

List of light armor vehicles:

  • Strider (AAF)
  • IFRIT (CSAT)
  • Hunter (NATO)

Medium armor

File:Vehicles - ArmA 3 - Medium Armor.jpg

Examples of medium armor vehicles.

Medium armor tends to differ mainly by the armaments it has. Medium armor has at least a cannon (typically automatic). The AMV-7 Marshall, Bradley IFV, Stryker MGS (Mobile Gun System) or ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile), and LAV-25 are considered medium armor due to their markedly improved lethality compared to the light armor.[1]

Medium armor provides excellent protection against small-arms fire and some (but not much) protection against infantry-carried anti-tank weapons. The weapons of medium armor allow them to wipe the floor with any enemy infantry and some of them are even effective against heavy armor tanks to ATMGs and such.[1]

List of medium armor vehicles:

  • AFV-4 Gordon (AAF)
  • AMV-7 Marshall (NATO)
  • BTR-K Kamysh (CSAT)
  • FV-720 Mora (AAF)
  • IFV-6C Panther (NATO)
  • MSE-3 Marid (CSAT)

Heavy armor

Examples of heavy armor vehicles.

Heavy armor are exclusively tanks. The Slammer M2A1 Main Battle Tank is Arma 3's heavy armor for BLUFOR. It has tremendous firepower, great armor, and is pretty much the king of armored vehicle combat in Arma 3. Heavy armor is the infantry's worst nightmare come to menacing life.[1]

Aquatic Vessels

Surface vessels

Patrol boats.

Overview of surface vessels.

  • Small but agile military speedboats are at your disposal. Military vessels are designed for the coastal raids and patrolling, they are usually armed.
  • Also, be aware that civilian ships in varying condition may be found along the inhabited coastline of Altis.

List of surface vessels:

Submersibles

Overview of submersibles.

  • Last but not least: embark on a Seal Delivery Vehicle and infiltrate the seeming impenetrable defences under the surface of Mediterranean.
  • SDV provides not just transportation capability, but also a powerful observation periscope.

List of submersibles:

Aircraft

An F-35 jet landing.

Aircraft play essential roles on the battlefield like transporting troops, supplies to providing close air support and performing strafing runs on enemy forces.

Fixed wing

Fixed wing aircraft may be used to recon a suspected enemy base and then relay any information to base that will then command in an airstrike.

Fixed wing aircraft require runways to take off and land. They are the fastest vehicles in the game.

List of fixed wing aircraft:

  • A-143 Buzzard (AAF)

Rotor aircraft

The AH-9 Pawnee.

Rotor aircraft, or helicopters, are distinctly different from fixed wing aircraft as they have the ability to hover, and take and land vertically.

Typical armaments include miniguns, unguided rockets, autocannons and anti-tank guided missiles.

List of rotor aircraft:

  • AH-9 Pawnee (NATO)
  • AH-99 Blackfoot (NATO)
  • CH-49 Mohawk (AAF)
  • MH-9 Hummingbird (NATO)
  • Mi-48 Kajman (CSAT)
  • PO-30 Orca (CSAT)
  • UH-80 Ghosthawk (NATO)
  • WY-55 Hellcat (AAF)

NATO land vehicles

Light armor

Hunter1

Hunter stationed at Camp Rogain, Stratis. Note the mounted heavy machine gun.

The hunter replaces the HMMWV for the NATO side, with improved armor against mines and the gunner is not exposed anymore.

It can carry up to 4 people: 1 driver, 1 gunner and 2 passengers. The hunter is based off the M-ATV Oshkosh (MRAP).

More vehicles are going to be added soon.

Autonomous vehicles

ArmA3-Autonomous

Example of autonomous vehicle in ArmA 3.

Autonomous vehicles in ArmA 3 is light non-player-controlled vehicles that can be controlled by UAV operators. This kind of vehicles very useful for exploring the battlefield. Some autonomous vehicles may have different weapons for destroy the enemy forces. Cannot used against armored vehicles.

Other information

In patch 1.08.0.113494 for ArmA 3 was added new vehicles for independent side: Wy-55 Hellcat, APC FV-720 Mora and tank MBT-52 Kuma.
