The Army of the Republic of Vietnam (short form: ARVN) is an INDFOR faction in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.

Overview[]

Made up of South Vietnamese soldiers engaging in a bitter struggle against the Communist north, the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) is comprised of Army regulars, Marines (short form: TQLC), Army Special Forces (short form: LLDB) and Ranger light infantry, who serve as scouts and commandos. They are backed by airpower provided by the Republic of Vietnam Air Force (RVNAF) alongside the U.S. military and its allies.[1]

Equipment[]

Supported by the U.S. military, the ARVN's forces are primarily equipped with American-made weapons and equipment. Conventional troops, vehicle crews and Rangers alike wear olive-coloured uniforms, load bearing vests, and M1 helmets.

Vehicle crews wear the same olive uniforms but don T56 helmets whilst pilots are issued grey flight suits and SVH4/APH6 helmets (with some being issued flak jackets and explosive-resistant vests). Only LLDB special operations units are given distinct tiger stripe camouflaged uniforms. Most special operations units and Rangers prefer to wear boonie hats in lieu of the M1.

Trivia[]

  • ARVN Marines (TQLC) were not originally present as a sub-faction upon the DLC's release and were only included as part of Update 1.2.[2]
  • As with their REDFOR counterpart, ARVN forces utilise a Vietnamese radio protocol, but it is only a placeholder that remains muted as no voice lines were actually recorded for the protocol.
    • However, prior to Update 1.2.1, the ARVN defaulted to using American English protocols until the hotfix implemented the change.[3]
