A village on the southwesternmost corner of Altis, Athanos is a small seaside resort that overlooks the Panochori Bay.
This partially abandoned village[1] has a semi-constructed array of wave power generators due south of the village centre away from the resort's beach area. Only a single unpaved road originating from Neri (to the north of Athanos) leads directly into the village. All other trails that break off towards the east and north-east terminate at the base of the mountain.
History[]
CSAT-AAF forces conduct a joint raid against Athanos (Mid 2035)
In early August 2035[2], at the height of the FIAinsurgency, the AAF and their Iranian-led CSAT advisors temporarily blockaded the town due to the suspected presence of FIA sympathisers.[3]
However, the assassination of a high-ranking CSAT official two weeks prior[2] had caused a significant disruption to both the chain of command and communications between both sides.[4] This was further compounded by the defection of an AAF officer to the insurgents. His last act of betrayal before defecting to the FIA resulted in the deaths of several Iranian soldiers, leading to a growing rift between CSAT forces and the AAF.[5]
The AAF and their CSAT advisors were later forced to pull out of the village as well as the rest of western Altis[6], following an invasion by U.S.-led NATO forces almost a week later on August 8th.[2][7][8]

Make sure not to run in the open, the area is mostly abandoned by the population. So use the buildings, ridges and vegetation to stay hidden. KERRY: Thanks for the advice Falcon. MILLER: Yeah, right. Just make sure you don't compromise the operation, before we even start it. Out."

Since his defection, Orestes has further briefed us on what he knows about the situation. Based on this information, we believe that one of our own - Nikos - is being held by the AAF on Stratis. I don't need to tell you how important he is to our cause, brothers. Not only is he the lynchpin of our supply network, he's the one man that truly unifies our cause. We plan to set him free. However, time is of the essence. Orestes believes that they will move Nikos deep into CSAT territory. It's imperative we get to him before he's taken beyond our reach. Right now, our British friend is putting together a plan to extract him and is finding the boats we will need to get to and from Stratis. We deeply appreciate this assistance. For now, we'll wait for Miller's signal and move to his position when the time is right. EXECUTION: 1. Inserted near Athanos 2. Stay undetected 3. RV with Miller at the beach."

Finally, NATO got their act together. Launched an assault on the Altis mainland. [...] Caught off-guard by the whole thing. They were there to fight guerrillas, not start World War Three. So, when CSAT dropped their support? Government forces panicked. They were on the back foot - needed to regroup. Major Gavras was put in charge, but that was a tall order. Gavras tried to fortify their position in the north west. But, it was a risk - and he ended up cut off. The guerrillas? They didn't hesitate. Stormed his position - sent the survivors running."
