This page lists all of the available backpacks in ArmA 2.
Overview[]
Backpack functionality was added to ArmA 2 following the release of the Operation Arrowhead expansion pack. Only infantry units added following the expansion's release are capable of picking up backpacks; pre-Operation Arrowhead units cannot carry packs even if they appear to be capable of doing so.[1][2]
Other caveats include medics and non-combat personnel (i.e. civilians) not being capable of carrying backpacks. Opting to carry a pack also prevents the user from holding onto shoulder-launched weapons, as backpacks occupy the same launcher slot in the unit's inventory.
Certain heavy firearms like 7.62 mm medium machine guns or 12.7 mm anti-materiel sniper rifles also cannot be wielded either. Attempting to do so will automatically "discard" the weapon onto the ground (or vice versa).
