Armed Assault Wiki

Berets are wearable hats worn by multiple factions in ArmA 3.

Overview[]

Berets are worn by civilians as a fashion item, though they are also donned by some military officers to signify their status. They have a weight of 6 "mass" units.[CfgWp 1]

Berets do not protect the wearer from either small arms fire or indirect explosions.

Variants[]

CSAT[]

Worn by Pacific CSAT officers and other high-ranking military personnel, these Berets are coloured in bright red and feature an embroidered insignia patch of the alliance's six hexagons. It is visually different from the basic Beret but is statistically identical when it comes to weight.[CfgWp 2]

Gendarmerie[]

The Gendarmerie Beret was added with the release of the Apex expansion pack.

These Berets are usually worn by commanders and other notable personnel within the Horizon Islands Gendarmerie force. Statistically, they also remain unchanged compared to civilian Berets.[CfgWp 3]

LDF[]

This is a premium asset that requires ownership of the Contact expansion pack.

The LDF Beret was added with the release of the Contact expansion pack.

These Berets are exclusively worn by the commanding officers of the LDF's elite 5th Regiment. They feature an embroidered flash of the unit's insignia. Statistically, the LDF's Berets are unchanged compared to normal Berets.[CfgWp 4]

NATO[]

NATO Berets are available in two versions; one with a generic U.S. Army patch with no organisational flash, and a second emblazoned with the emblem of the 111th Infantry Division, intended to be worn by commissioned officers with the rank of Colonel.

They are statistically identical "mass"-wise to regular Berets (6 "mass" each).[CfgWp 5][CfgWp 6]

Trivia[]

  • Berets have a unique "Elite" attribute when selected in the Virtual Arsenal, though this property provides no actual in-game benefit when worn.
  • The NATO Beret was not initially available upon ArmA 3's release, and was only included following the addition of the main campaign's second episode.[1]
    • However, the unique variant with the 111th ID's flash was only added in the campaign's third episode.[2] Meanwhile, the Gendarmerie's Beret would not be included until the Apex expansion pack was released.[3]
    • The CSAT beret would also not become available as a wearable hat until the release of the Old Man mini-campaign/scenario.[4]
  • Out of all the Berets, only the LDF's is specifically classified as a premium asset that requires ownership of the Contact expansion pack (all other Berets can be freely worn regardless of DLC ownership).[5]
The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
  • Several unused config entries exist for alternate versions of the Beret. These include ones coloured in black (for Altian policemen)[6], red[7], two green ones (one for civilians[8] and a second presumably for special operations units[9]), brown[10] and lastly, CSAT's Hexacam camouflage pattern.[11]
    • Unfortunately, no actual textures are present within the game files for these alternate versions. As a result, they remain identical to the default black Beret if equipped through the use of scripting commands or a custom addon to unhide them. It is not clear as to why these variants were scrapped from the final version of the game.
  • A third texture variant of the NATO Beret exists within the game's files but remains unused. The only difference with this specific texture is that the flash has the insignia of a silver eagle overlaid on top of it.[12]
  • Arma3-hat-beret-03

    FFL Berets.

A unique green-coloured Beret is briefly shown in the intro cutscene for the Old Man mini-campaign.[13]
    • It is worn by several French Foreign Legionnaires deployed to Argana. However, this variant cannot actually be seen or worn in-game as a config entry for it does not exist.
    • The texture it uses appears to be an unused variant of the LDF's Beret coloured in dark green rather than pale blue (Texture name: h_beret_eaf_01_ca.paa[14]). If "recreated" using a custom addon, the unused texture strikingly matches the FFL beret depicted in Old Man's opening cutscene.
