« The FIA move in to retrieve a seized fuel truck.
Mission Description
»

Bingo Fuel is the thirteenth mission of ArmA 3's The East Wind campaign.

Quotation[]

Overview[]

The player controls FIA squad leader Ben Kerry. The FIA is in need of fuel to support their operations, and must reclaim one of their fuel trucks that were confiscated by government forces. Kerry's squad of guerillas must infiltrate and retrieve the supplies from an industrial complex at the town of Agios Dionysios.

Kerry's role/class:

  • Infantry / Grenadier

Default loadout:*

Your choice of equipment in the Briefing menu depends on the weapons and equipment salvaged from previous missions and/or optional scouting missions.

(*) This is the default loadout assuming that the player has not customised or collected different items from the previous mission.

Objectives[]

Primary[]

  • (1) Enter the AO
  • (2) Find the Cistern
  • (3) Get a Full Cistern
  • (4) Deliver the Fuel

Optional[]

  • (5) Link Up

Mandatory[]

  • Kerry must survive
  • Avoid collateral damage/friendly fire
  • Unless ordered to do so, the fuel truck must not be disabled or destroyed
  • Remain within the combat area

Walkthrough[]

Primary 1: Enter the AO[]

To begin, you should link up with the other two groups in the area. Sigma is in the forest north-west of the city and Gamma is in the junkyard below the valley (refer to the map/optional objectives below).

This objective will be completed once you cross the main highway running through the town.

Primary 2: Find the Cistern[]

Your goal is to get to the fuel truck's location which can be found at the scrapyard on the other side of the town, directly to the south-east of your starting location. It is parked inside a compound next to the large factory building with twelve guards protecting it.

During the initial phase, you are unlikely to engage enemy patrols. However, you may want to order your subordinates to Hold Fire as they may automatically attack vehicles that could otherwise be avoided. In particular, watch out for the tank that will go through the main road. The IFV on top of the hill will be mostly idle but will start firing at you if you use missile launchers within its view.

Also be on the lookout for the Quick Reaction Force team with the grenade launcher-armed MRAP that will come after you if your squad attracts too much attention. On approach to the cistern, you are likely to see a helicopter flying overhead and a vehicle approach from the south of the city. Avoid the latter if possible as its autocannon's 30 mm shells will make short work of your squad.

One thing to note on this mission is that all armoured fighting vehicles aren't locked and can be captured by Kerry, though you will need to make the crew abandon them by inflicting enough damage without destroying it. The easiest ones to capture are the Gorgon IFV parked by the roadside just outside the town, and the Mora IFV inside the town since they are stationary and won't move unless alerted.

All you need to do to knock out the Gorgon IFV is shoot out the tyres with small arms fire, though it is easier if you disable the turret first. The Mora IFV is slightly trickier to knock out as you need to sneak up on it to plant an explosive charge near it. No matter the vehicle, be sure to kill the crew as they dismount.

Note that to fix any damage incurred, you can utilise the repair truck near a ruined house which can be reached by following the dirt road connected to the main road to the south-west. The location is marked on the map as the location of 1st Squad.

The fireteam on the south-western side.

Stavrou will alert you once you're near the compound. You may wish to approach from the north and use the rocky hills at grid coordinates 095-157 as it provides a better vantage point for you and your team to snipe the guards from.

Avoid coming in from the west if possible as there is no clear line of sight on the compound's guards. It also places you directly in the line of fire of another IFV that will eventually drive along the dirt road from the south.

Primary 3: Get a Full Cistern[]

Kerry will report back to Stavrou that the truck is completely drained of fuel. Luckily, Captain Miller's team discovered another fuel truck at the village of Alikampos which is fully loaded to the brim with petrol. However it's also being protected by a squad of CSAT troops who aren't particularly in the mood to share their supplies.

Fortunately, your squad won't be alone this time as Stavrou has backup in the area to provide fire support in the form of Team Kappa. Move further south and once you're close to Kappa's position, save your game straight away (if possible). Authorise Team Kappa's attack through the Supports Menu and wait for them to destroy the MRAP guarding the eastern entrance.

Once it goes up in flames, move in and begin taking out all of the recon troops one by one. Do not rush. Take your time and remember to make use of the buildings for cover. Keep in mind that there are eight soldiers in total and they will immediately break off from their usual patrol routes once bullets start flying.

As soon as the last soldier falls, it will be safe to hop into the fuel truck. Begin driving back towards Agios Dionysios.

Primary 4: Deliver the Fuel[]

You have the option of choosing any of the three methods to end the mission:

  • Delivering the fuel cistern to the FIA but ignoring Miller's high value target. This starts you off closer to the AO but there are a few additional enemy patrols, increasing the subsequent mission's difficulty significantly.
  • Delivering the fuel cistern to Miller's team but sacrificing it to destroy the high value target. The subsequent mission will start with some enemies removed and their skill levels sharply reduced, but you will start off further away from the AO.
  • Destroying the high value target and delivering the fuel cistern. The best option as it allows you to start off close to the main objective and reduces the amount of enemies encountered.

Depending on your skill level, going for the third option where Kerry destroys the CSAT HVT by himself and keeps the fuel cistern intact is the best choice. To do this, take the Titan launcher from one of the dead troopers at the first compound where you discovered the empty cistern.

Quickly make your way back to Agios Dionysios and set up positions on the rocks at grid coordinates 095-157 (overlooking the town). Look further east along the main road and switch to thermals. Look for the heat signature of an IFV, APC and MRAP (the CSAT officer is inside the MRAP).

As they turn around the bend, lock-on and fire away. Be sure to immediately take cover though as the IFV's gunner will return fire eventually. Get back to the truck and drive straight to the marked rendezvous point. Alternately, you can also set up explosive charges/satchels along the road and wait for the HVT's vehicle to drive over one (you will also have one by default at the start of the mission).

No matter what choice you picked, the mission will be over once the truck has (or hasn't) been delivered.

Optional 5: Link Up[]

Once you get close enough to any of Sigma and Gamma's units, they will automatically join your squad. Do this for both to complete this objective.

Tips[]

  • Depending on the time of day, your sound suppressor's overall usefulness will vary. If it takes place at night, be sure to aim for headshots and avoid spraying for prolonged bursts as you'll give away your position by doing so.
  • It may be advisable to stockpile some of the rarer CSAT weapons and protective gear by having your fellow guerillas collect them from their corpses. Don't forget that anything carried on your starting members (in addition to Sigma's/Gamma's units) will be automatically added to the weapons pool upon completing the mission.

Trivia[]

  • As with most of the early missions that can be initiated from Gori, Bingo Fuel can either take place on July 21st (at 05:00 AM) or at a later date and time (22nd/23rd in the evening, etc.).
    • However, according to the official Armaverse Timeline, Bingo Fuel canonically takes place on July 21st after the events of Breaking Even.
  • The final delivery point is placed relatively close to the town itself. This is an interface spoiler to the plot twist later in the mission.
  • Hilariously, the player can choose to "accidentally" destroy the initial truck with the empty cistern before discovering its status. This will not cause the mission to fail but result in Kerry being chided by Stavrou for his incompetence.
    • This obviously does not apply to the second truck (which is considered mission critical).
  • Due to how an AAF patrol route intersects with their hiding position, Gamma may sometimes be killed before you can link up with them.
  • The only real consequence of not handing over the fuel cistern to the FIA is that you start off further away from the objective in the following mission. If you do not want to assassinate the HVT yourself, giving the fuel to Miller's team is the more viable option as it will reduce the amount of enemies that you'll encounter and make it easier to accomplish.
