However, one of the task force's remaining gunships has crashed into the forest west of Maxwell. They must secure the crash site and destroy the wreck before it attracts the AAF's attention.

Walkthrough[]
Primary 1: Investigate the Crash Site[]
Follow Sergeant Conway down the hill towards the crash site. Stop when you have a clear line-of-sight on the gunship's wreckage - there will be a fireteam of AAF troopers (four in total) standing guard. Take cover behind a tree and kill them quickly, then move in to secure the wreckage.
Primary 2: Defend the Crash Site[]
SGT Conway will order the squad's medic to resuscitate the unconscious pilot and radio for support from Captain Scott Miller. In the meantime, you need to set up perimeter defences around the wreckage. An AAF squad will be arriving shortly to assault the area so you need to defend the medic until they're fought off.
This is where your anti-personnel bounding mines will come in handy. The AAF are divided into two four-man fireteams and will be attacking from two directions from the west, so you need to set up mines along their attack routes:
Place one mine along each route. Make sure it's concealed by foliage or the trees so that the enemy do not spot them. Once you've established the defensive perimeter, take cover behind one of the trees behind the rest of your squad and wait for the fireworks. Finish off any survivors who get through the mines.
Be careful of any stragglers who may have bypassed them entirely; they will attempt to run around to your left and right flank to ambush the medic. Once all attackers have been repelled, this objective will be completed and the medic will report that that the pilot has passed away.
Primary 3: Plant the Charge[]
Conway (if he's still alive) will now order you to demolish the gunship's wreck. Plant your demo charge next to the fuselage.
Primary 4: Destroy the Wreckage[]
Get away from the wreckage and wait for the rest of the squad to also move away. Detonate the charge when Conway gives the all-clear signal.
Now run back up the hill that you started from. The mission will end shortly afterwards.
Tips[]
Avoid placing your mines out in the open. The AI can see them if they aren't concealed behind or inside a bush and circumvent your traps entirely.
Notes[]
Although uncommon, there is a potential issue regarding campaign progression past Blackfoot Down. If encountered, this bug will cause a loop that prevents the player from proceeding further in the story even after completing the mission.
It is not known exactly as to what results in this softlock, but one potential cause is due to leaving Maxwell and attempting to start Scouting missions earlier than intended (they are not meant to be possible at this point due to story/time limits). A possible solution to this bug is to simply revert progress to just before the start of the mission.
Be sure to select REVERT as opposed to REPLAY/RESUME on the campaign mission menu, otherwise the loop bug will continue to occur.
Trivia[]
SGT Conway can be killed during the initial assault or when the AAF mount their counterattack. If he dies in this mission, he will be replaced by a generic NATO soldier for the remainder of the episode.
