Blata is a remote settlement located in the Independent Republic of Nogova.

Overview[]

A semi-abandoned hilltop settlement located only a short distance away from the village of Varta, Blata consists of several houses left amongst the rubble of a few others.

At the height of their occupation of Nogova, Soviet military forces used the village as a supply depot for storing weapons and equipment.[1] However, it was destroyed by anti-Soviet partisan fighters on September 2nd, 1982.[2]

History[]

On September 2nd, 1982[2], the Soviet depot at Blata was destroyed when anti-Soviet partisans raided the outpost. They had succeeded in doing so after most of the defenders were ordered to mobilise and to protect the bridge at Davle instead.[1][3] This left the depot wide open to attack; the guerillas, commanded by their leader Victor Troska, quickly exploited the opportunity and assaulted Blata.[4]

The guerillas eliminated Blata's remaining defenders and began salvaging weapons and ammunition. The partisans then proceeded to destroy whatever they could not carry before fleeing from the area.[5][6]
