Design[]

This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.

Features
An armoured bridgelayer specifically designed to support tank formations in bypassing streams and anti-tank ditches, the BrPz 1 can deploy an aluminum bridge which can then be used by any ground vehicle to drive over. Once all vehicles have crossed over, the BrPz 1 can retrieve the bridge and rejoin the formation.

Although its bridge is essentially useless for vehicles that are already capable of fording across water bodies, the BrPz 1's assault bridges are a valuable alternative for non-amphibious vehicles to fall back onto if there is no other way to cross it (i.e. all surrounding stone bridges have been demolished by the enemy).

Crew Capacity
The BrPz 1 only supports a crew of one (the driver). It is unable to transport any passengers.

Camouflage[]

NOTE: The BrPz 1 has additional camouflage schemes for non-West German/Danish BLUFOR and REDFOR nations. Please note that these nations are not actually featured as playable factions in the DLC.

American[]

NOTE: Not featured as a playable faction.

Danish[]

Soviet[]

NOTE: Not featured as a playable faction.

West German[]

Protection[]

The BrPz 1 has a base armour value of 200. It cannot be fitted with addon armour modules.

Hull[]

The BrPz 1's hull can only withstand a maximum of 200 points of damage before its integrity fails. It takes 80% reduced damage from high-explosive (HE) type munitions.

It should be noted that damage inflicted upon the hull is amplified by 1,000% and this will be shared with the BrPz 1's main "health" pool. Depletion of its integrity will always result in a catastrophic kill.

Engine[]

The BrPz 1's engine can only take up to 90 points of damage before it fails. It takes 80% less damage from HE-type munitions. No damage inflicted upon the engine will be shared with the BrPz 1's main "health" pool.

Tracks[]

The BrPz 1's tracks consist of the treads, sprockets and wheels. Each of these components can be damaged individually and will progressively affect its mobility depending on the severity of damage and how many components remain intact:

  • The wheels, idlers and sprockets can each take a maximum of 200 points of damage. They take 200% additional damage from HE-type munitions.
  • Both treads can withstand up to 650 points of damage. They take 50% less damage from HE-type munitions.

In all cases, no damage to any of these components is shared with the BrPz 1's main "health" pool.

Components[]

NOTE: Cosmetic-only component modules with no gameplay effects are deliberately excluded from this section.

  • Add Foliage - Hull: Attaches shrubbery and tree branches on all sides of the hull (the bridge itself is not covered).

Capabilities[]

Arma3-gmcwgbrpz1-bridge-00

The BrPz 1 requires one minute and ten seconds to set up a bridge. Retrieving a placed bridge will take up to one minute and twenty-four seconds for the disassembly process to complete.

The driver does not have be in the vehicle once the bridgelaying process begins. They can dismount whilst the bridgelaying process automatically continues. Placed bridges can be pushed by vehicles heavier than the bridge, and they can be knocked off centre by large explosions with enough force to physically push them.

Arma3-gmcwgbrpz1-bridge-01

Top: Examples of invalid bridge placements. In both cases, the BrPz 1 itself is either at an incline (left) or the bridge lacks support on the opposite end (right).
Bottom: Valid bridge placement. The bridge can be laid down because 1: the gap is sufficiently wide enough and 2: the BrPz 1 is not positioned at an awkward angle.

It should be noted that bridges can only be laid down if the BrPz 1 is at a relatively flat angle (pitch tolerance extends to 8 degrees while yaw is restricted to just 2 degrees) and if there is a hard object or flat surface on the other end of the bridge to support its placement. Additionally, it is not possible to daisy chain bridges by attempting to stack them atop one another since there is nothing to support the opposite end of the bridge.

The bridgelaying process can be interrupted by enemy fire. If the BrPz 1 is destroyed before the bridge is fully laid down, then it will simply disappear once the BrPz 1 blows up.

Trivia[]

  • Development on the BrPz 1 pre-dated Global Mobilization's official launch. However, the vehicle would not be included in the DLC's asset pool until Update 1.4[1] due to quality issues surrounding its bridgelaying mechanic.[2]
  • Additional camouflage options for U.S. and Soviet military forces were added in Update 1.5.[3]
  • The BrPz 1 is the first vehicle of its kind in the entire series (albeit only in a semi-official capacity).
  • Although the BrPz 1 technically has an "interior", it is simply a darkened compartment that allows the driver to look through its non-Picture-in-Picture hatches without being forced into a 2D-style pre-Tanks DLC periscope view.
    • The developers of Global Mobilization have stated that there are no plans to include a fully detailed interior.[4]
  • According to a Q&A video released by Vertexmacht[5], it is a personal favourite of "GalComT" due to the extensive amount of development that was needed to implement the BrPz 1 as a useable asset.[6]
  • The BrPz 1's real descriptive name ("Biber") is deliberately omitted for licencing reasons.[7]

Notes[]

  1. Unlike most vehicles in Global Mobilization, it is not possible to slingload the BrPz 1 even if its weight has been deliberately reduced to an acceptable threshold (via the setMass scripting command).
  2. Although the BrPz 1 itself cannot be slingloaded even by scripted methods, the bridge does support being slingloaded. However, as with most heavy vehicles in Global Mobilization, this can only be done if the bridge's weight has been lowered to an acceptable threshold with the setMass scripting command.

  4. Mondkalb 2020, Regarding the tank interiors: It's a lot of work because of the massive amounts of intricate details required. This is time and effort that easily comparable with making an additional new vehicle. For GM we'd rather bring you new vehicles (Like the helicopters or the Luchs) than spending time on tank interiors., Discord [Social Media], viewed 20 January 2024, <https://discord.com/channels/245546995874267147/757954857226338447/758009638125043863>.
