Armed Assault Wiki

Caps are wearable hats worn by multiple factions in ArmA 3.

Overview[]

A simple baseball-style cap favoured by both Altian and Tanoan civilians alike.

Caps weigh a total of 4 "mass" units. They do not offer any protection from small arms fire or damage from explosive fragments/concussion.

Variants[]

Headset[]

Alternate variant that features a compact headset.

It only uses the Olive colour scheme. There are no other differences compared to regular, unmodified Caps.

Rangemaster[]

Slightly modified variant with a pair of headphones and an integrated headset. It is slightly heavier to wear, weighing in at a total "mass" of 8 units rather than 4.

It is only available in one colour scheme (Olive). This variant is specifically worn by some NATO soldiers and firing range supervisors, as well as Altian government Loyalist commanders, FIA guerilla leaders, and Syndikat/L'Ensemble's black market smugglers.

Marshal[]

Alternate variant worn by Altian racing marshals and in limited numbers by pilots hired by the Syndikat/L'Ensemble.

It is statistically identical to the Rangemaster variant with the exception of its colours, which uses the Red scheme and canary yellow-coloured headphones instead.

Trivia[]

  • Out of all the wearable hats in ArmA 3, the Cap has by far the most camouflage options.
  • The headset-equipped, Olive-coloured Cap was not added to ArmA 3 until the release of Game Update 1.08.[1]
  • The Press version was not included until the third and final episode for the main campaign[2], while the Marshal variant would only be added following the Karts DLC's release[3].
    • It should be noted that in the case of the Marshal variant, the DLC is actually not required, and it can be freely worn regardless of ownership.[4]
  • The White, Orange and Black (IDAP) schemes would only be included as part of the Laws of War DLC.[5]
  • Following the release of Game Update 2.14, the Lyfe and Malden Tours variants would be also added to the Cap's lineup of texture variants. These two textures were specifically ported from Bohemia Interactive's (now-defunct) Project Argo.[6]
  • Conventional North African CSAT soldiers and certain specialist classes are strangely shown wearing the Cap as their default headgear. Seeing as how they are clearly not a non-state actor group, it makes little sense for their regular troops to eschew ballistic-resistant combat helmets.
    • Furthermore, all present-day armies throughout the region (as of 2017) supply combat helmets to their line infantry as standard-issue equipment. This ranges from French/American-made "SPECTRA"/"PASGT" helmets (respectively) for the Tunisian Armed Forces, or even the Croatian-made "BK-4" used by the Algerian People's National Army.
    • This lapse in logic is further compounded by the fact that an in-game version of the PASGT already exists in the form of the Basic Helmet, which had been added to ArmA 3 prior to Tac-Ops' release (as part of Laws of War[5]).
The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
  • Arma3-hat-capsero

    Unused Cap (SERO) variant.

Curiously, there is an unused, pale brown-coloured texture with a logo of SERO (Texture name: capb_sero_co.paa) hidden within the game files.[7]
    • Given that SERO offered permission for Bohemia Interactive to feature one of their products in ArmA 3[8], its omission from the final game is rather out of the ordinary (especially as CMMG Inc. is prominently featured whereas no imagery of SERO exists).
  • Arma3-hat-cappolice

Pre-Alpha Cap (Police) texture. Note the brighter blue colours and unique logo on the front.

The Police variant also had a completely different scheme during the pre-Alpha phase of ArmA 3's development.
    • Unlike the final version, it has a much brighter blue colour scheme with an actual logo used by Altian law enforcement agencies.[9]
  • Arma3-faction-csat-07

Raven Security insignia on the pre-Alpha Cap.

What is now the AAF's Digital Green Cap was initially meant to be used by a Russian private military company known only as Raven Security.[10][11][12]
    • The REDFOR sub-faction only existed in the 2011 version of the storyline (before the Alpha's release) and was left out of the final game.[13][14]
    • The original texture for Raven's Cap was still present in the Alpha[15] until it was changed in the Beta to coincide with the AAF's inclusion[16], though the filename for the texture was not changed and still references the PMC by name.[17]
