The Carrier GL Rig is a ballistic/explosive-resistant vest worn by NATO forces in ArmA 3.
Overview[]
Designed with enhanced blast protection in mind, the Carrier GL Rig is a step up from the Carrier Rig and covers more parts of the wearer from area-of-effect munitions and landmines. It has a weight of 100 "mass" units[CfgWp 1], and provides protection for the wearer's neck, shoulders, chest, diaphragm and pelvis.
Unlike its lighter counterparts, the Carrier GL Rig is rated at Level IV standards. The wearer will be able to consistently survive a single blast from a frag grenade exploding at close range. It will also allow them to survive being hit by a 7.62 mm bullet at point blank range, though hits from certain higher velocity 7.62 mm bullets can still inflict fatal injuries. At distances of ~ 400 metres, the user will be able to survive ~ 3 direct hits to the chest from 6.5 mm rifle rounds.
When pitted against its bulkier counterpart, the Carrier Special Rig, the Carrier GL Rig provides additional storage space and allows the wearer to store up to 140 "mass" worth of ammunition and/or items.[CfgWp 2]
However, the Carrier GL Rig is not without its drawbacks. While it does possess an impressive base armour value of 78 for the chest/diaphragm plates, it only lowers 40% of incoming damage from ballistic projectiles. In stark contrast, the Carrier Special Rig has a value of 24 but reduces damage by 90%. Furthermore, the pelvic guard and other non-torso parts of the body have minimal armour values, as the vest is optimised specifically for reducing damage from explosions rather than ballistic projectiles.

Trivia[]
- Prior to the release of the Marksmen DLC[1], the Carrier GL Rig simply reused the same model as the Carrier Rig.
- At ArmA 3's launch, the Carrier GL Rig only had Green and Black camouflage schemes available. Platform updates included as part of later DLCs would add the MTP (Marksmen)[1], Tropic (Apex)[2], and Woodland (Contact)[3] camouflage variants.
- Similar to other free additions from the DLC's platform update, the Carrier GL Rig does not require ownership of the DLC to wear.[4]
