The Combat Helmet is a ballistic-resistant helmet used by conventional NATO forces in ArmA 3.
Overview[]
Standard-issue ballistic-resistant helmet worn by conventional U.S. Army soldiers. It has a weight of 30 "mass" units.[CfgWp 1]
The Combat Helmet is rated at Level II standards and provides only basic protection against small arms fire. At non-point blank ranges, it will allow the wearer to survive being struck by a single round from any intermediate rifle cartridge, though this does not include high-powered 7.62 mm DMR rounds.
Essentially, it is identical to the AAF's Modular Helmet but has just slightly less surface coverage of the user's head. The only upside to the Combat Helmet stems from its large variety of camouflage options. In all other aspects, it isn't particularly useful for personal protection purposes and is inferior when compared to its Chinese-made counterpart.
Variants[]
Combat Helmet (Camo)[]
The Camo variant has scrim netting applied on top along with small grassy shrubs attached to the net.
It is identical to regular Combat Helmets protection-wise. These additions, while not significant, result in the Camo variant being slightly heavier to wear, clocking in at a total of 40 "mass" units instead.[CfgWp 2]
Hitpoints[]
Body part | Base armour value | Damage reduction modifier (vs. ballistic) | Damage reduction modifier (vs. explosions) |
---|---|---|---|
Head | 6[CfgWp 3] | 50%[CfgWp 4] | 50%[CfgWp 4] |
Camouflage[]
- Black: Black paint finish with desert sand-coloured rails/frame.
- Desert: Arid spraypaint pattern meant to mimic a snake's skin.
- Grass: Semi-arid spraypaint scheme meant to imitate blades of grass.
- Khaki: Dark mud brown paint finish with sage green-coloured rails/frame. Standard finish used by Mediterranean NATO forces.
- Sand: Desert sand paint scheme with tan-coloured rails/frame.
- Snakeskin: Lush spraypaint pattern meant to mimic a snake's skin.
- Tropic: Tropic MTP camouflage pattern with forest green-painted rails/frame. Used by Pacific NATO forces.
- Woodland: Woodland MTP camouflage pattern with dark green-painted rails/frame. Exclusive to Eastern European NATO forces.
Trivia[]
- In-game Combat Helmets appear to be based on Revision Military's "Batlskin Cobra" series of combat helmets.[1]
- Despite being based on the exact same helmet model (right down to the proportions of the shell), the basic Combat Helmet somehow has a lower base armour value than the Enhanced Combat Helmet even though both helmets would logically provide the same level of ballistic protection.
- The Black, Sand, Snakeskin, Desert and Grass camouflaged Combat Helmets were not added until the release of the campaign's first episode.[2]
- Likewise, Tropic camouflage was only included with the release of the Apex expansion pack[3], while the Woodland version would not become available until the Contact expansion's release.[4]
- They were also renamed after the release of the Bootcamp Update and Marksmen DLC. Prior to both updates, they were originally known as the ECH and lacked unique inventory icons.[5][6]
- At ArmA 3's launch, the Combat Helmet was heavier and had a weight of 40 "mass" units instead. Protection-wise, the helmet only had a base armour value of 3. Both stats would eventually be changed after the release of Game Update 1.10[7] as part of the changes introduced in the Soldier Protection Overhaul.[8]
- The protagonist of ArmA 3's main campaign, Corporal Ben Kerry, retains a unique version of the Combat Helmet which is named specifically for his exclusive use.[9] Although its appearance is identical to that of an Enhanced Combat Helmet[10], it retains the stats of a regular Combat Helmet.
