Walkthrough[]
As with the previous "mission", the objectives are designed to teach you other parts of ArmA 3's core gameplay mechanics.
You will learn how best to stabilise your weapon, reading compass bearings, approximating ranges, manage stamina and fatigue after sprinting, the different stances and their effects on how your character handles weapon sway/recoil (standing, crouching, prone), as well as the differences of optical sight attachments ranging from short-range, non-magnified collimators to medium-ranged (and magnified) riflescopes.
Like before, follow Adams' instructions and when ordered to, sprint in a circle around the marked positions until you're told to return to your starting location.
The "mission" will end when Adams receives a radio message from an AAF squad leader requesting for his assistance.
Tips[]
- If you somehow run out of ammunition, there are several more magazines stored inside the same crate where the RCO is stashed.
Trivia[]
- If Conway repeatedly fails to aim in the direction of the right targets when their bearings are called out by Adams, the latter will grow increasingly impatient with his incompetence and eventually give up altogether by telling him the precise location of the target(s) and their distance in metres.
- At the time of shooting the targets, Adams will offer commentary based on the player's decision to either rest, switch to crouching/prone, or shoot while heavily fatigued.
- The AAF recruits will dryly point out the irony of the target posts being caricatures of CSAT soldiers (which Adams excuses due to their lack of alternatives at hand).
- This is because the Altian government is closely aligned with the CSAT coalition and rely on them for funding, military and political support. Therefore it would make little sense for them to shoot at CSAT targets - even if for training purposes.
- Adams mentioning that a fatigued soldier will eventually "[...] grow to hate the sound of their own wheezing" is a reference to feedback from the community regarding changes to the fatigue/stamina system early in ArmA 3's release.
- Audio for the player's breathing was obnoxiously loud and repetitive to the point of being hugely distracting in regular gameplay. This was changed following significant overhauls to the fatigue/stamina system beginning with Game Update 1.12 and many subsequent patches.
