Commoner Clothes are uniforms worn by civilians and criminals in ArmA 3.

Overview[]

A loose short sleeve poloshirt and shorts with a pair of sandals, these outfits are mainly worn by civilians living throughout the Mediterranean and Atlantic island nations.

They weigh 40 "mass" but offer only 20 units worth of space for storing ammunition/gear. Commoner Clothes do not provide any increased resistance against gunfire or explosives.

Variants[]

Casual Clothes[]

The Casual Clothes derivative was added with the release of the Apex and Art of War DLCs.

This variant features a poloshirt matched with a pair of pants and leather shoes (Apex), or a plain short-sleeved shirt with jeans and runners (Art of War) rather than shorts and sandals.

Compared to regular Commoner Clothes, the Casual Clothes are slightly lighter at 30 "mass". However, only the poloshirt variants provide 10 more units of storage space (30 "mass"). Shirted derivatives offer identical storage capacity to Commoner Clothes.

Camouflage[]

  • Blue: Dark blue poloshirt with beige-coloured shorts.
  • Burgundy: Burgundy-coloured poloshirt with a multicolour pattern and faded blue checker pattern shorts.
  • Red-White: Predominately white-coloured poloshirt with red markings and light red striped shorts.
  • Salmon: Salmon pink poloshirt with horizontal stripes and a pair of tan shorts.
  • Striped: Multicolour horizontal striped poloshirt with white shorts.
  • Tricolor: Dark blue poloshirt with a single red-white bar in the centre along with a pair of camouflaged shorts.

The following schemes only apply to Casual outfits:

  • Blue: Two-tone blue poloshirt with white pants.
  • Green: Green poloshirt with dark blue/white horizontal stripes and mud brown pants.
  • Navy: Three-tone striped blue poloshirt with a pair of beige-coloured pants.
  • Abstract: White shirt with pale blue pants. An abstract depiction of an alien-like object comprised of nanomachines is displayed with the subtitle of "Grey Goo".
  • Robogeddon: Black shirt with bright blue pants. Humorous artwork depicting a massive drone staring at the viewer is plastered onto the front with the subtitle: "Are we going to have a problem?"

  • Exhibition: Black shirt with pale blue pants. An imprint of Make Art Not War 2035 is plastered onto the shirt.
  • Waltham Robotics: Yellow shirt with black pants. A schematic of the DOGG-O drone designed by Waltham Robotics is featured on one side of the shirt.
  • Drones: White shirt with pale blue pants, featuring freehand artwork depicting a swarm of medical drones coming to the rescue with a subtitle of "Send in the drones!"
  • Art of War: Indigo-coloured shirt with black pants. Intended for attendees of the Art of War Exhibition 2035 at the Blanken Gallery in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Trivia[]

  • The Casual Clothes sub-variant was not initially available upon ArmA 3's release and were only included with the Apex expansion pack.[2] Because they are simply retextures of an existing model, Casual Clothes do not require ownership of the DLC to wear.[3]
    • It was further expanded with the addition of the Art of War DLC, which included additional colour and pattern schemes specifically for the Casual Clothes outfit.[4] The imagery on some of these new shirts feature artwork created by contest entrants and members of the ARMA community.
The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
  • In ArmA 3's final release, the Commoner Clothes outfit only uses a single model that is retextured several times to accommodate different styles.

      The unused variants, excluding the poloshirt derivative.

      However, unused models left within the game's files suggest that there were meant to be a plethora of choices when it came to civilian outfits (presumably during the pre-Alpha). These range from:
      • A poloshirt with cargo pants, similar in appearance to the Guerilla Outfit but with an identification badge/medallion worn over the wearer's neck (Model name: c_citizen2.p3d).[5]
      • A short sleeved hoodie with pants, a shemagh wrapped around the neck, and a wristwatch/PDA strapped the wearer's left wrist (Model name: c_citizen3.p3d).[6]
      • A striped, reflective leisure suit with rugged pants and short sleeves (Model name: c_citizen4.p3d).[7]
      • A striped t-shirt with worn-out jeans (Model name: c_citizen5.p3d).[8]
    • All four models use two textures apiece, potentially allowing for up to dozens of colour variants for each outfit alone by mix and matching the various textures.[9][10][11][12][13]

      Some of these outfits can still be seen in early teaser videos published in 2011/2012 prior to the Alpha's actual release in 2013.[14] The fifth variant for instance, was intended to serve as the original protagonist's civilian outfit for the main campaign.
    • Unfortunately, these outfits cannot be used in-game without a custom addon as the uniforms were never implemented.
      • Interestingly however, the intended classnames for several of the outfits are still present within the game's configuration files, though they will only appear as the default Commoner Clothes outfit when equipped through scripting commands due to lacking proper entries.[15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]
    • It is unclear as to why they were not included in the final version of the game. Unlike placeholder assets such as the F-38/F-35F or the MV-22B[27], these models are not ported from prior games and are unique models specially made for ArmA 3.
