The Czechoslovak People's Army (short form: ČSLA) is a REDFOR faction in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the CSLA Iron Curtain Creator DLC.

Overview[]

A highly efficient and versatile fighting force, the ČSLA is tasked with protecting the nation's border with West Germany. Though the country is one of the founding members of the Warsaw Treaty Organization (WTO), the ČSLA mostly operates independently of their Eastern allies.

The ČSLA's doctrine places a strong emphasis on frontal armoured assaults supported by heavy artillery.[1] As such, the bulk of the Ground Forces' units at the border consist predominately of tanks and motorised infantry backed by mobile gun/rocket artillery batteries. Paratroopers and saboteur formations - stationed at nearby airbases, always stand ready to insert behind enemy lines for reconnaissance and sabotage operations.

Aside from securing the border, the ČSLA also focuses on patrolling the border to prevent would-be escapees and fugitives[2] alongside hunting down traitors to the state.[3][4][5]

Equipment[]

The ČSLA's vz. 60 Jehličí camouflage pattern

The ČSLA possesses a mixture of indigenous hardware and licence-produced Soviet designs, ranging from their personal gear to ground vehicles and aerial assets.

Both conventional infantry and elite forces wear the vz. 60 combat uniform camouflaged in the Jehličí pattern, a slightly altered version of the Strichtarn camouflage scheme used by their East German compatriots. Vehicle crewmen wear the same Jehličí uniforms as their infantry counterparts. However, all pilots wear solid flat blue coveralls with no gloves as opposed to the combat uniforms.

Unlike their more advanced Soviet allies, body armour and flak vests are not worn by troops of the Ground Forces. Only vz. 60 and vz. 85 load bearing harnesses (as well as life vests on occasion), tailored towards the wearer's role within their squad, are issued to personnel on a readily available basis.

When it comes to head protection, frontline soldiers are issued the vz. 53 explosive-resistant combat helmet while ground vehicle crews wear the vz. 28 tanker hat. For aircrews, their allotted headgear depends on their assignment: fixed-wing pilots wear the ZSh-5 flight helmet while rotary-wing pilots wear the POP-6.

Paratroopers and reconnaissance units don a (customised) derivative of the POP-6 helmet coloured in olive green, though some may prefer to wear berets instead. Additionally, snipers are permitted to wear full body ghillie suits to better conceal themselves against their targets.

Trivia[]

  • ČSLA units strangely utilise American English radio protocols instead of Czech. This even extends to playable scenarios involving the faction which have dialogue lines voiced entirely with American English voiceovers.
    • Although they do not speak in Czech within the scope of the main DLC's assets, the optional (but officially made) Operations pack published onto the Steam Workshop will automatically grant the faction access to a Czech radio protocol.[6]

Fortunately, the forests in the area are so dense that it will be no problem to hide there and continue to fight for our cause in a real guerrilla war. All the supplies were already moved to different positions in the forests and our units are now also regrouping. According to the recent reports from the West, SOCOM already organizes other supporting groups and additional supplies and ammunition. The withdrawal into the woods will complicate the situation only to the CSLA units, which are trained to wage war according to the doctrine of the Warsaw Pact - wide frontal attacks against a large enemy."

I managed to escape the trap in the woods only thanks to a huge amount of luck. But Tonda wasn't so lucky. After he was arrested by the police and probably taken by StB agents for interrogation, I managed to quickly organize a few insiders for our operation. Now it's up to our skill to get new weapons, free Tonda and flee to the West... Our friends in the West must already have information that something is happening!"
  3. ARMA 3: CSLA Iron Curtain 2021 [Video Game], ČSLA Studio, Iron Curtain, Road to Nova Pec, "What's going on? Yesterday, we were on red alert and now we are almost bathing in the river. We heard gossip about a sort of uprising in the borderland a few days ago, almost immediately after the assault on the border barracks. Even then I knew that something will happen and my unit will be there too. Apparently, this is a carefully planned provocation by the Western agents, so we have to sort them out. We will not allow any subversion of our socialist state from within. We must beat them!"
  4. ARMA 3: CSLA Iron Curtain 2021 [Video Game], ČSLA Studio, Iron Curtain, Road to Nova Pec, "The remnants of some armed formations were eliminated and only a small number managed to get lost in the dense forests close the border. But it's all kind of suspicious. Everything is kept secret and there is a lot of befogging around our deployment. The fact that many dead terrorists looked like our people does not add to our peace of mind... Just people from the secluded homes around here... and not like provocateurs of the Western secret services..."
  5. ARMA 3: CSLA Iron Curtain 2021 [Video Game], ČSLA Studio, Iron Curtain, Operation Fish head, "Comrades, it's here... the time has come to do away with the guerrilla warriors near the border. According to the intelligence and information from our colleagues from the State Police, we managed to push them into the salient near the village of Ceske Zleby. They had an ultimatum by today's midnight. If they surrender, they will have a chance of a fair trial in front of the People's Court. Apparently, this did not happen and according to the confidential information, they even constantly communicate via radio with somebody in the West. We are concerned that there could be an attempt to cross the border violently. For this purpose, some more mines were placed in the border zone during the night and the regular units were withdrawn from this section. The border is now guarded by hidden combined riflemen units supported by the units of long-range recon. The operation with the code name "Fish head" will be launched from the three different directions. We will take advantage of the moment of surprise by dropping the first wave in the target area from helicopters. After the landing is completed, we immediately start the combat recon in the selected sectors. Meanwhile, other combined riflemen units will get to you to secure a wider area. The orders are clear! No one must escape! Either they surrender and lay down their arms immediately, or shoot them like the dirty dogs..."
