Davle is a settlement located in the Independent Republic of Nogova.

Overview[]

Davle is a riverside town with several scattered houses, a small village to the east, and a church with a scenic view on the top of a small cliffside to the north-west.

Its most notable landmark is the bridge that crosses over a narrow inlet (the river Vltavice). A key element of Nogova's infrastructure[1], this bridge connects both sides of the island and is the only way to cross over to the other side of Nogova without taking a detour through the northern pass at Mokropsy.[2][3]

Davle is connected by three roads: the western road leads to Petrovice via Neveklov and Slapy, while the eastern road goes to Lany through Velká Ves. Lastly, the northbound road will lead towards Dolina, passing by the villages of Skalice, Paseky, Opatov and Joudov.

History[]

For the duration of their occupation, Soviet military forces had used the bridge as an MSR to transport munitions, fuel and reinforcements between settlements in the east and the main airport on the western side of the island.[1][3]

On September 19th, 1982[4], a strike force of anti-Soviet partisans led by Victor Troska succeeded in destroying Davle's bridge after they infiltrated the village and blew up the bridge's supports.[5] By destroying the bridge, Soviet supply lines were effectively cut off as they could only take a detour through the mountain pass in the north.[6]

However, this route was considerably dangerous for the Soviets to navigate as the partisans retained full control over the northern pass. This meant that the Soviets were now forced to risk losing their valuable supply convoys to ambushes along the entire route.[6]

The Soviets have deployed their forces evenly on both sides of the island. So, if we manage to destroy the central bridge, we can disrupt their supply lines, and make it impossible for them to move around at speed. It's a bitter pill to swallow, the destruction of this key element in our country's infrastructure. But we have no choice. The bridge is very well defended. Davle, situated on our bank, serves as a small base, occupied mostly by infantry. From time to time a convoy goes along the bridge – so it may be posible to blow up the bridge together with some of those vehicles... There is a little fortification on the other bank, from where some reinforcements are expected. Another garrison is settled in nearby Neveklov, which you will pass by on your way to the target. You can destroy the bridge with standard satchel charges. Each bridge pier needs at least three of them. If you are out of satchel charges, take advantage of our friends to resupply - there must be plenty of explosives in their base in Davle. The primary aim is to render that the bridge unpassable. ABSOLUTELY unpassable."

If they move their forces and supplies, they will have to go over the mountains – and it is OUR territory... For we do not know, what could we expect exactly, we put a sentry at the head. As soon as anything moves in the area guarded by him, he will inform us about that. I guess we can reckon with recon vehicles, armored units at the head and some guarding units..."
