Purpose[]

The last of the three constructable traps that is made available after upgrading the Headquarters to Level 6, the Davy Crockett is an extremely powerful anti-ground mine that inflicts devastating damage to all units that are within proximity of it.

Upon detonation, it deals 175 base damage (unupgraded) to all vehicles and infantry caught within a blast radius of 10 metres. It can only be triggered by ground units and must be rearmed manually after each battle for a cost of 2,000 supplies (the rearming cost increases depending on the Davy Crockett's current upgrade level).

Aside from the Tracked UGV, the Davy Crockett is highly effective against almost every ground unit. Wheeled/Light UGVs are particularly vulnerable to the Davy Crockett even after being upgraded, especially if they clump up together.

Just like the APERS Mine, all infantry squads aside from the Engineer Team are unable to avoid triggering them. Even assuming that they survive the blast, the likelihood of them retaining enough HP to assault the base is unlikely.

However, it is possible for Engineer Team squads using their Disarm Traps ability to trigger them safely from a distance. Tracked UGVs can be deployed in the direction of wherever you suspect that there may be Davy Crocketts placed to absorb the initial blast. Or alternatively, a cheap infantry unit like the Fire Team can be sacrificed to trigger it to make way for other units.

Like all other traps there are few reliable ways to circumvent Davy Crocketts aside from simply avoiding them. Needless to say, expect to incur losses whenever going up against a base that's defended by them.

Trivia[]

  • In the real-world, the "Davy Crockett" is a nuclear-based artillery shell that was first developed during the Cold War.
  • Despite being intended to counter them, Engineer Teams are not always capable of disarming Davy Crocketts from a safe distance. On occasion, they may simply decide to run right up close to one and get annihilated by the ensuing blast.
