The Deck Crew Vest is a ballistic-resistant vest worn by NATO's flight deck crews and sailors in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Jets DLC.
Overview[]
Deck Crew Vests are worn by every sailor operating on the flight decks of the U.S. Navy's fleet of aircraft carriers.[1][2] It weighs a "mass" of 100[CfgWp 1] and provides enough space for 50 units worth of ammunition/items.[CfgWp 2]
Each vest colour is intended to signify the wearer's responsibility in ensuring flight operations run smoothly on the carrier. At the same time, it is used to enhance their visibility to pilots landing or taking off from the flight deck. Additionally, the vest is ballistic-resistant and is classified with Level II protection standards. The wearer's chest, diaphragm and abdomen are covered by the vest. Protection-wise, it is superior to the baseline Tactical Vest worn by helicopter pilots/crew chiefs, and is analogous to Police/Gendarmerie versions of the Tactical Vest.
However, the Deck Crew Vest still remains ill-suited for combat use due to its low storage capacity, conspicuously bright/reflective colour schemes, and lack of actual camouflage patterns. Unless it's absolutely necessary to do so, the Deck Crew Vest shouldn't be worn into battle under any other circumstances.

Camouflage[]
The Deck Crew Vest does not utilise camouflage schemes in the conventional sense. They are meant to denote crew roles on the flight deck:[3]
- Blue: Signifies plane handlers, aircraft elevator operators, tractor drivers, messengers and phone talkers.
- Brown: Exclusive to air wing plane captains and air wing line leading petty officers.
- Green: Used by catapult and arresting gear crews, air wing maintenance personnel, cargo-handling personnel, Ground Support Equipment (GSE) troubleshooters, hook runners, Photographer's Mates and helicopter Landing Signal Enlisted (LSE) personnel.
- Purple: Specifically worn by aviation fuel handlers.
- Red: Intended for ordnancemen, crash and salvage crews and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel.
- Yellow: Intended for use by aircraft handling officers, catapult and arresting gear officers and plane directors.
- White: Utilised by air wing quality control personnel, squadron plane inspectors, Landing Signal Officers (LSO), Air Transfer Officers (ATO), Liquid Oxygen (LOX) crews, safety observers and medical personnel.
Trivia[]
- Deck Crew Vests are simply modified versions of the Tactical Vest with the pouches removed and a Rangemaster Belt added on (but lacking a holster).
- The editor does not include unique units for each specific role, as the generic NATO flight deck crewman unit always wears a Yellow vest by default.
