The Defender Helmet is a ballistic-resistant helmet worn by CSAT forces in ArmA 3.
Overview
An improved version of the regular Protector, the Defender provides increased defence against small arms fire and explosives. It weighs a "mass" of 60 units and is usually worn by squad/team leaders and reconnaissance units.
Rated at Level V standards, the Defender has a base armour value of 12 and allows its wearer to survive one point blank 6.5 mm round (or potentially two at distances of beyond 300 metres).
Although the Defender still lacks facial protection, it has better surface coverage and higher base armour when compared to NATO's Enhanced Combat Helmet. Since it only weighs 10 more "mass" units than the latter, the Defender is vastly superior to its American-made counterpart in every way.
Camouflage
- Hex: Arid Hexacam pattern. Used on Mediterranean CSAT Defenders.
- Urban: Urban Hexacam pattern. Exclusively used by Mediterranean CSAT Guards units only.
- Green Hex: Tropic Hexacam pattern. Used on Pacific CSAT Defenders.
Trivia
- The Defender simply reuses the same model of the regular Protector but has its eyepieces lowered. In spite of this, it somehow retains a higher armour value for unexplained reasons.
- Prior to the release of the Apex expansion pack, neither of the two existing Defender variants (Arid/Urban) had their own inventory icons and simply reused their respective Protector counterparts.

- This texture no longer exists within the games files, however, and was deprecated entirely by the time of the Alpha's release.
