« Time to move on. We have to get through no-man's land to reach a NAPA rally point.
Mission Description
»

Delaying The Bear is an alternate, non-canonical mission in ArmA 2's Operation Harvest Red campaign.

Overview[]

The players control the four operatives of USMC Force Recon fireteam callsign Razor. Having decided to join forces with NAPA, Razor must now support the guerillas in their attempt to reclaim the region from the ChDKZ. However, they need to find a way to get past the Russian "peacekeepers" and link up with the forward outpost on the outskirts of Novy Sobor.

Walkthrough[]

NOTE:

  • This mission can only be played if you side with NAPA in the previous mission (Bitter Chill).

Primary 1: Get to assignment position[]

You'll start off at Castle Rog. Once Little John finishes his briefing, head north-west down the slope and link up with the truck that's waiting for you and order everyone to get onto the flatbed. Be sure to order your fireteam members to HOLD FIRE and to DISENGAGE.

Primary 2: Join the backup convoy[]

The instant the driver reaches 111-102, Russian soldiers will ambush the convoy and suppress the lead vehicle. Get out of the truck immediately and sprint east down the hill. Do not fight the Russians; you don't have the firepower to tackle them, and the likelihood of Cooper or another Razor member getting incapacitated or blown up is high.

Once you're far enough from the convoy, head north towards grid 111-095. Stay crouched and go through the village of Msta. Avoid the temptation to steal any of the civilian vehicles as they're bullet magnets for the gunship that will be flying over the area shortly.

The moment you get close enough to the backup convoy's position, the screen will fade to black and end in victory shortly afterwards.

Tips[]

  • A weapons crate can spawn next to three random buildings inside Msta (112-099/112-098). If you manage to locate it, you can use the Igla AA launcher stored inside to take down the Mi-24.
    • Just be wary of the gunship's countermeasure flares. If you absolutely intend on shooting down the gunship, save your game first so that you can instantly reload if things go bad.
  • It is technically possible to fight off the Russians, though it is quite difficult to achieve in singleplayer due to the unreliability of your AI allies. This is generally more feasible in co-op as all four members of Razor will be controlled by humans (and therefore are able to react faster/more effectively than the AI).
    • Do be careful of the Vodnik IMV that comes to reinforce the initial Russian squad, however. It will arrive roughly a minute after the convoy gets ambushed; be sure to have anti-vehicle weapons ready or have whoever is controlling Sykes snipe the gunners as soon as possible.

Trivia[]

  • The debriefing strangely claims that Razor Team shot down a Russian UAV even though no such drone actually appears at any point in the mission.
