The Drone Trap serves as a buildable Defence-type trap in ArmA: Mobile Ops.
Overview[]
- Role:
- Proximity anti-air unit mine
« | An anti-air small rocket mine able to destroy enemy drones or smaller aeroplanes in one hit. This mine is not triggered by ground units but only by air drones. If triggered it flies into the air and explodes with splash damage to all air units in the close radius. Shop Description

Purpose[]
The second trap to become available at the Shop, the Drone Trap is designed exclusively as an anti-air defensive mine.
Once triggered, the Drone Trap will launch a devastating blast of flak into the air above it, inflicting 125 splash damage (unupgraded) to all nearby flying units within a radius of 16 metres. It can only be triggered by flying units and must be rearmed manually after being activated in a defensive battle, with rearming costs increasing depending on the Drone Trap's current level.
By default, the Drone Trap can instantly destroy entire swarms of weak air units like the Hexacopter Drone, and will severely damage low level or unupgraded Helicopter Drones as well. Since the Drone Trap's weapon is an area-of-effect attack, it is particularly effective against clumped up air units.
For all its power however, the Drone Trap does nonetheless have several drawbacks. It will deal no damage against ground units even after being disarmed by an Engineer Team with a unit nearby. X35 Jets are also fast enough to avoid the initial blast, and will generally take minimal damage since they tend to not clump up together during an attack run.
Since there aren't enough that can be built to cover the entire base, Drone Traps will usually be placed in predictable locations (i.e. near the Headquarters) that can simply be avoided by enemy air units entirely.
Trivia[]
- Contrary to what its in-game Shop Description states, the Drone Trap is not powerful enough to instantly destroy Helicopter Drones and X35 Jets even when the latter two are unupgraded. It is however, capable of wiping out upgraded Hexacopter Drones with ease.
- Drone Traps can still be triggered by camouflaged Hexacopter Drones, though they may still fail to activate on occasion even if they fly over them directly.
