Escape is the final mission of ArmA: Armed Assault's Royal Flush campaign.

Overview[]

This is a premium mission that requires ownership of the Queen's Gambit expansion pack.

The player controls disavowed Black Element team leader Kurt Lambowski. The Queen has assumed control of the throne once more and has declared a state of martial law throughout the country. Having succeeded in assassinating her brother, she now intends to get rid of his supporters.

Gonzales and Lambowski's team must now acquire some means of transportation in order to get out of the country before it's too late.

Lambowski's role/class:

  • Infantry / Mercenary Grenadier

Default loadout:*

(*) This is the default loadout assuming that the player has not customised their loadout or has purchased weapons from an arms dealer.

Objectives[]

Primary[]

  • (1) We'll touch down on the coast of South Sahrani.
  • (2) Then we'll meet Gonzales
  • (3) And try to reach the airport
  • (4) Commandeer a plane and fly away.

Optional[]

N/A

Mandatory[]

  • Lambowski must survive
  • The escape helicopter must not be destroyed
  • Do not abandon your team
  • Do not leave the AO unless you have obtained the escape helicopter

Walkthrough[]

Primary 1: We'll touch down on the coast of South Sahrani.[]

You'll start off in a CRRC. Head straight for the rendezvous point at grid Fc47.

Watch out for the RACS as their patrol boats will be constantly sailing along the coast. One will always approach from the west (Ej45) whilst the other will sail along from the south-east (Fh48). Get there quickly and disembark from the boat the instant you hit the shore.

Primary 2: Then we'll meet Gonzales[]

NOTE:

  • Unless they died before landing, all surviving members of Royal Flush must disembark from the boat in order to trigger the cutscene with Gonzales.
  • The cutscene will not play if Lambowski is the only character standing at the rendezvous point.

Wait for Gonzales to meet up with you. He'll run down towards the beach to where you landed.

Primary 3: And try to reach the airport[]

To complete this objective, you have two options at your disposal:

Follow Gonzales[]

Follow Gonzales back up the hill. Ignore the RACS helicopters that fly past.

However, do not follow him once you reach the road. He will attempt to lead you towards grid Fc48 but this will cause you to run headlong into a RACS ambush involving a fireteam's worth of soldiers and three offroads approaching from the east (two unarmed and one armed). Eventually, even an APC and a backup armed offroad will join the fight, so don't continue along Gonzales' path unless you want to risk a quick death.

Rather, head south-west towards grid Ej50 instead. You'll be safe from the road patrols and will only have to deal with the perimeter guards on the runway. As soon as you arrive at Ej51, a checkpoint will trigger, and this objective will be marked complete.

Kill Gonzales[]

You can kill Gonzales without penalty and get to the airport yourself. You may want to do this instead if this is your second playthrough as Gonzales is quite slow and his AI pathfinding is not particularly great. However, you can even do this on your first playthrough of the mission if you'd prefer to take your own route to the airport.

Regardless, if you opted to get rid of Gonzales, just head straight for grid Ej51. As usual, ignore the helicopters flying above and only engage the airport perimeter guards (don't draw the attention of the road patrols).

Primary 4: Commandeer a plane and fly away.[]

You need to get into the parked helicopter next to the aircraft hangars (Ei52):

Red: Enemy patrols
Pink: Enemy patrol routes (randomised patrol route timing)
Blue: Royal Flush (You)
Green: Escape helicopter (Goal)

However, in order to reach it, you'll need to fight your way past all the airport's guards first. Order your team to transition to DANGER mode and ENGAGE AT WILL. Take it slowly and don't rush; the airport isn't heavily defended, but the patrols have a direct sightline over your approach, and they can easily pin you down if you're not careful.

Do note that every single marked patrol consists of at least two or three soldiers depending on the timing of their current patrol route. This especially applies to the outer perimeter guards at grids Ei51/Ej51, as well as those on the eastern end of the runway at Fb51. The sole exception is the one guard standing next to the helicopters at grid Fb52; he will be solo and won't normally engage your team unless you provoke him.

As soon as the majority of hostiles in the area have been killed off, quickly board the helicopter as its pilot and order the rest of your team members to get in as well. Start gaining altitude and head north towards the coast. Once you have flown far enough, the mission will come to an end and the campaign's final cutscene will play.

Tips[]

  • Consider lowering enemy AI skill levels if the airport guards prove to be too difficult to handle.
  • If you need weaponry and weren't able to buy any from the arms dealer, the boat you start in has plenty of ammo for NATO firearms. It even contains an M136 Launcher (with up to three rockets), which may be invaluable in dealing with the armoured vehicles if you didn't bring an AT launcher.
  • Gonzales' AI will always attempt to flee if you get into a firefight. If you lose sight of him during the fight, return to the rendezvous point at Fc47 once the situation has stabilised and he should be standing there waiting.
  • Due to the distances that you'll be engaging the airport's defenders at, you may want to consider buying either a Mk12 SPR or an SVD from the arms dealer prior to starting this mission. There's not much in the way of cover and the enemies remain standing mostly out in the open, making them easy to pick off from a distance with both weapons.
  • There is no need to wait for Gonzales to board the helicopter at the end of the mission (only your team members are required). You can simply fly off into the distance and the mission will still conclude without him being aboard.

Trivia[]

  • As confirmed by the official Armaverse Timeline, Escape is the canonical ending to Royal Flush.[1]
  • Like on previous missions, the RACS are uniquely depicted utilising former SLA vehicles for the duration of this mission (Ural fuel trucks and UAZs).
