Forward Operating Base Typhon (short form: FOB Typhon) is a military base located on the island of Altis in the Republic of Altis and Stratis.

Overview[]

Built at the height of the AAF's counterinsurgency campaign against the so-called "Freedom and Independence Army" (FIA), it is manned exclusively by Altian personnel with limited support from Iranian-led CSAT peacekeepers.[1][2]

Situated on the outskirts of Frini[1], FOB Typhon comprises of several portable structures, a helipad, vehicle repair depot and a guard tower that overlooks much of the northern region. It is surrounded by a series of H-barriers, sandbag fortifications, hedgehog/dragon's teeth barriers and heavy machine gun turrets.

The FOB suffered significant damage to its facilities in mid-July 2035 at the height of the insurgency. It is unclear if it continued to remain in use after the FOB was retaken by Altian government forces.[3][4]

History[]

Arma3-campaign-theeastwind-adapt-05

FIA guerillas manage to raid Typhon's supply depot.

On July 21st, 2035[3], the FOB was attacked in a coordinated series of raids organised by the FIA.

The guerillas began the attack by killing the sentries posted atop the FOB's guard tower.[5] Several squads then proceeded to assault it on foot, their push being backed by suppressive fire from FIA machine guns.[6] Within minutes, the FOB was overrun and occupied by the guerillas.

In response to its fall, the AAF dispatched a company of mechanised reinforcements to retake the FOB. They were backed by close air support jets and a platoon of CSAT tanks and APCs.[7] However, the guerillas had no intention of holding onto Typhon and only aimed to raid the supply depot. They managed to hold off the initial wave of attackers before retreating on foot into the nearby forests, hauling off a significant stash of stolen arms and equipment along with them.[4]

Facilities[]

Command centre[]

The base's command centre is situated next to the FOB's entrance. An auxiliary HMG turret is always mounted atop the building's second floor.

Helipad[]

An improvised helipad is located on the western side of the FOB. It caters to medium-lift helicopters but can support larger helicopters if necessary.

Supply depot[]

All of the FOB's supplies are stored in the centre of the FOB, north of the command centre. The "depot" simply consists of stacked crates/containers concealed by a camouflaged net cover propped on poles.

Vehicle repair depot[]

A repair depot is located just south of the helipad. It is primarily used to repair damaged light tanks and maintenance for the FOB's logistics trucks.

Trivia[]

  • FOB Typhon was initially featured as a nameless outpost in The East Wind and wasn't given a proper designation until the release of the Altis Requiem mini-campaign.
    • An unfortunate side effect of its "reappearance" is its inconsistent layout. Many of the facilities (i.e. the repair station) do not exist in The East Wind whilst Altis Requiem lacks others - the supply depot being one such example.
    • The various editor props (added with the release of the Tanks DLC) featured in Altis Requiem are also strangely missing in the main campaign. Likewise, all of the static weapons and sandbag walls are positioned in completely different locations between the two campaigns.

It begins to look more and more like the offensive against us is part of a bigger strategy. Our enemy is pushing back into territory they abandoned long ago, setting up a forward operating base to the north west of Frini. Yes, this is bad news for us, but, if we play our hand well, it's also a rare opportunity. CSAT forces are driving this offensive too quickly, over-stretching both themselves and the AAF. If we can hit this position right now, I think we have a chance to catch them off-guard. The base is still under construction, with supplies arriving by the hour. I say we strike quickly, seize whatever weapons and ammo we can, and fall back. We need to send a message to our enemy: they cannot expand with such impunity, and we cannot expect to last much longer if we let them do so."

Our morale is weak. Our own people are against us. Reports of desertion and sabotage are rife. If we are to defeat this insurgency, we cannot waste our time, severing heads from the hydra. Instead, we must cauterize its wounds - drain the swamp - isolate the enemy and tighten our grip on those areas where they are strongest."
