Forward Operating Base Whiskey (short form: FOB Whiskey and alternately, Point Starfire[1]) is a military outpost located on the island of Altis in the Republic of Altis and Stratis.

Overview[]

FOB Whiskey is the site of a former Altian military outpost that sits between the towns of Neochori (in the south), Lakka (to its north) and Stavros (east). It was originally established at the height of the military's counterinsurgency campaign to monitor the surrounding areas for signs of activity by the so-called "Freedom and Independence Army" (FIA).[2]

The FOB consists of a single tall watchtower and a smaller guard tower surrounded by walls and H-barriers. A medium-sized helipad supports heavy-lift helicopters.[3][4]

On August 8th, 2035[2], the former outpost was captured by U.S.-led NATO forces in response to the unprovoked attack by the Altian government against the peacekeepers of Task Force Aegis.[5] It was subsequently re-designated as FOB Whiskey following its capture, and was used for logistical airlift operations for the duration of their deployment.[3][6]

History[]

FOB Whiskey's defences are sabotaged by CSAT troops.

In the late hours of August 9th, 2035[2], FOB Whiskey was attacked by CSAT special operations teams who overran the outpost's defenders and destroyed its anti-aircraft battery. With its loss, the defensive line at Neochori was left exposed to CSAT gunships, which wreaked havoc upon the now-disoriented troops.[1]

FOB Whiskey was eventually reclaimed later that night when NATO reinforcements, alongside their guerilla allies, were able to drive off the gunships[7] and repel an attempted armoured counterattack by CSAT troops.[8][9]

By morning[2], FOB Whiskey would be used as a staging point for reinforcements being prepared for the attack upon the international airport.[10] Helicopters continually ferried troops from the FOB for the remainder of the battle[6] until the airport was finally captured by NATO forces.[11]

Trivia[]

  • FOB Whiskey was initially known only by its designation of Point Starfire in The East Wind. It wasn't given a name until the release of the Helicopters DLC whereupon it is prominently featured in the Sling Loading showcase.

The AAF have been split in two, with entire companies pulling back far to the north-east and south-east ends of the island. CSAT forces, on the other hand, seem to have disappeared entirely. However, logistics continue to present an obstacle. With phase two culminating in the seizure of the main airbase, along with several surrounding Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), we stand prepared to overcome this obstacle."

As it turns out, there wasn't a chance in hell that we were ready for what awaited us. CSAT got one over on us this time - and intel suggests they're ready to hit back at any moment. Truth is, if we don't hold what we've taken over here, this whole operation is a wash. So - with Stratis under our control - we're going to head back and dig in. Now, keep in mind - in spite of Corporal Kerry's 'debrief' - we're not exactly sure what's happened here. As such, keep an eye out for any suspicious activity. Until MEDCOM says otherwise, 'Captain Miller' - along with his team - are not recognized as friendly. And - while we're on the subject, Corporal - were it up to me, you'd be stuck here spit-shining latrines until a court-martial deemed you fit for duty. Lucky for you, command doesn't feel likewise. But make no mistake, you fuck up just once - you endanger any of my men - and you're gone. Dismissed."

Could be. Second time's the charm, right? Where's our armored support, though? 111TH ID SOLDIER: There is none. We gotta seize the harbor near the runway first. Don't worry - we've got their heavy hardware marked for the artillery - should be a cakewalk."
  11. ARMA 3 2014 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., The East Wind, Air Superiority, "Our assault on the airbase is in progress. Although you've lost your transport and are unable to join our push, you've fulfilled your objectives, secured our rear, and made sure the rest of our air support is safe. Thanks to you, we won't fail this time."
