The M1014 is a 12G shotgun featured in both ArmA 2 and ArmA Tactics.

ArmA 2[]

« The M1014, also known as the Benelli M4 Super 90, is manufactured by Beneli Armi S.P.A. in Italy. It is a 12 gauge semi-automatic combat shotgun designed for US Armed Service.
The M1014 fires 2.75 or 3 inch shells with about 50 m effective range.

The M1014 is used by both the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army forces in ArmA 2.

Overview[]

The M1014 is a semi-automatic combat shotgun that is chambered to fire 12 Gauge shotgun shells.

It can load either 8-round pellet or slug shell magazines, has a maximum fire rate of up to 120 rounds per minute, and a muzzle velocity of 396 m/s. The M1014 lacks the ability to mount any accessories or muzzle attachments.

The M1014 is a high-powered combat shotgun used by the U.S. military. It has an effective range of between 40 and up to 250 metres, though it's best employed for close quarters combat situations only.

Both the M1014 and its Russian counterpart are roughly comparable to one another. Their recoil, ammunition capacity and dispersion are almost identical. The main difference with the M1014 is that its fire rate is far lower in comparison to the Saiga 12K. As a result, the M1014's sole saving grace are its ghost ring sights, which are more ergonomic to aim with compared to the barebones ironsights on the Saiga 12K.

Ironsights[]

The M1014 can load two types of magazines. Both require one inventory slot to carry:

Trivia[]

  • Initially, only slug shell "magazines" were available for the M1014 on ArmA 2's release. This is because proper simulation for pellet-based shotshells were not added until the release of the Private Military Company DLC.[1]
  • Though the M1014's model has a top rail modelled on it, there are no variants with optical sights mounted on them.
    • The in-game model's third person level-of-detail view also seems to lack a charging handle but is clearly visible in first person.
  • Prior to the latest Steam version patches (as part of the CorePatch updates), a glitch with the M1014's model would occur when its magazine was emptied.[2]
The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
  • Arma3-icon-m4

Unused icon for the ArmA 3 M4 SSAS.

The M1014 was originally intended to have been in ArmA 3 as well where it would have been called the M4 SSAS (not to be confused with the M4 carbine). It can still be seen in early presentation videos released by Bohemia Interactive during ArmA 3's pre-Alpha phase of development.[3]
    • The M4 SSAS simply used an updated port of the ArmA 2 M1014 model that would have supported optical sights on its top rail thanks to ArmA 3's dynamic attachment system.
    • An incomplete reloading animation (Animation name: GestureReloadSSAS[4]), sounds for firing[5][6][7], reloading[8][9], and individual shell feeding[10][11] are still available in the game files. Its icon[12] also remains, though the actual model of the M4 no longer exists.

ArmA Tactics[]

« The M1014 is the U.S. military designation for the Italian Benelli M4 Super 90 semi-auto shotgun. Highly effective in close quarters combat, it has a faster rate of fire than the Remington 870.
Armoury Description
»
The M1014 12 Gauge shotgun.

The M1014 is used exclusively by the Operators in ArmA Tactics.

Overview[]

The M1014 can be unlocked at the Armoury for 800 credits.

A powerful weapon in close quarters, the M1014 is capable of one-shotting enemies regardless of whether they score a critical strike. The user can swiftly take out two enemies in a single turn without the need to reload or rely on another Operator to finish off the targets for them.

However, it should be noted that the M1014 has one major drawback to its use: range. Unlike the M4A1 or even the M249, both hit probability and damage drop off sharply against targets that are just a few metres away from the Operator. Ironically, it is the inverse of the M110 (the latter being terrible at close ranges); it is possible to waste all four shots on a single target and barely reduce them to half health.

To make matters worse, the M1014 is the sole primary weapon which cannot be upgraded. With no method of increasing its magazine capacity, the ability to mount a suppressor or accessory to boost its range, the M1014 is redundant for missions where firefights occur over long distances.

Luckily, the M1014's main upside stems from the fact that it does not require skill points invested into shotguns to be powerful. As such, any member of the team can be chosen as a candidate for the M1014 immediately upon purchase; so long as the mission takes place exclusively in close quarters. If the mission does not have close range encounters, it is always better to exchange the M1014 for the M249.

Upgrades[]

The M1014 cannot be upgraded.

Achievements[]

  • Tactics-achievement-upcloseandpersonal
    Up Close and Personal
    • Score 25 or more kills on enemies while armed with the M1014. Kills from any of the four operators count towards getting the achievement, but they must be the one that strikes the killing blow.

Trivia[]

  • Contrary to its depiction in Tactics, the M1014 (and most shotguns in general) are not as short-ranged or as inaccurate as they are shown in-game.
    • M1014s in reality can comfortably be used to engage targets at distances in excess of 50 metres. Tactics' M1014 on the other hand, has its buckshot pellets hilariously losing their energy against targets standing just 10 metres away.
    • Given the M1014's lack of upgrades (and the M110's deliberately imposed damage penalty in close quarters), this was most likely done for gameplay balancing purposes.
  • Prior to Update 1.1976, a bug would cause the M1014 to miss even when the Operator was standing less than 1 metre away from an enemy (and had a 100% hit probability).[13]
