Western Sahara is a premium DLC made for ArmA 3's Creator DLC programme. It was released on November 18th, 2021.[1]

Overview

« Argana, 2036. Welcome to the sprawling landscapes and punishing heat of the fictional Sefrou-Ramal province. Conflicts between rival tribes are flaring up, government forces are losing control, and an AAN war correspondent has been kidnapped. Civil war looms once again.

Become a private military contractor and be deployed to the desert dunes of Argana. This new addition to Arma 3 takes you to a hot conflict zone, brings back Arma's iconic ION PMC faction, and introduces new vehicle variants, weapons, clothing, gear, as well as singleplayer and multiplayer scenarios.
Official DLC Description
»

Set within the Armaverse, the Western Sahara Creator DLC has players step into the shoes of a private military contractor deployed to the mineral-rich Sefrou-Ramal region in the African nation of Argana, to rescue a captured news journalist.

New and improved variants of existing vehicles in ArmA 3 itself are bundled with the DLC: namely, the Marshall IFV and Marid APC, both of which have been granted modular capabilities to expand their roles. Alongside this are enhancements to the Zamak truck which has gained (optional) anti-aircraft guns and ViVT-capable models. The Offroad pickup and the PO-30 Orca helicopter have also been outfitted with up-armour packages designed to increase their survivability.

Additionally, five new factions - some based on existing factions from the Armaverse, along with a slew of handheld firearms, a static gun turret, and new drones in the form of armed UAVs that can either be outfitted with improvised explosives or handheld small arms, are included in the DLC. Lastly, this is all accompanied by a wide selection of (both new and retextured) personal gear and vehicular assets that are camouflaged to suit the arid environment of Sefrou-Ramal.

All proceeds made from the sale of Western Sahara are shared between the developers of the DLC (Rotators Collective, the creators), the publisher (Bohemia Interactive), and the digital distributor (Valve).

NOTE: The content in WS is completely optional to acquire. Unlike inhouse DLCs developed and released by Bohemia Interactive, content is only downloaded if the user purchases the DLC.

Optionally, players are able to download a trial version from the Workshop which is intended for multiplayer compatibility purposes. The terrains and campaign are not fully accessible however, and vehicles still cannot be driven or commanded outside of the editor without purchasing the DLC.

Content

Post-release assets may be gradually added via patches to the DLC's content library and expanded over time as they are completed. Any additions are free of charge for both existing and future owners of the DLC.

Trivia

  • Western Sahara is the first Creator DLC to feature a setting that takes place within ArmA 3's mid-2030s era. It is also the first Creator DLC to add a desert terrain to ArmA 3 (albeit only in a semi-official capacity).
  • When the CDLC's content is active, some vanilla factions in ArmA 3 itself will gain "bonus" retextured vehicles and units with custom loadouts that specifically make use of premium assets from Western Sahara.
    • However, with the sole exception of the DLC's desert NATO forces, none of these are actually standalone factions and are simply addons to their vanilla rosters. Prime examples of this are the inclusion of desert operatives for CTRG, or "extra" North African units for CSAT that have been modified to use the DLC's weapons and helmets.
