Fatigues are ballistic-resistant uniforms worn by CSAT forces in ArmA 3.

Overview[]

The standard-issue combat uniform of all Iranian and Chinese soldiers, CSAT's Fatigues are oversuits which provide full-body protection against ballistic threats, representing the pinnacle of the alliance's technological superiority over its Western adversaries.

They weigh a "mass" of 80 and provide space for up to 40 units of ammunition/items. Fatigues are rated at Level II protection standards and protect the wearer's chest, abdomen, diaphragm, pelvis, legs, arms and hands.

A set of Fatigues will allow their wearer to easily shrug off a direct hit from a single 7.62 mm bullet at point blank ranges. When paired with a ballistic-resistant vest or mil-spec plate carrier, the wearer can resist even more hits, though they must be at full "health" to survive the damage.

Variants[]

Officer[]

Lighter version that weighs only 60 "mass" and features rolled-up sleeves with no armour applied to the wearer's torso, abdomen, diaphragm, neck, arms or hands (the pelvis and legs continue to provide the same amount of ballistic protection).

The Officer Fatigues' storage capacity remains identical at 40 "mass", however. The Officer version is only available in either Arid or Tropical Hexacam schemes; an Urban variant is not available for use.

Ghillie[]

Bulkier variant with a ghillie jacket applied over the top of the uniform.

As opposed to the baseline uniform, its storage capacity has been slightly raised from 40 to 60 units. However, it should be noted that unlike dedicated ghillie suits, the jacket does not mask the wearer from infrared sensors/thermal optics.

Furthermore, it is heavier to wear and weighs a "mass" of 100 instead. Similar to Officer Fatigues, the Ghillie variant is only available in either Arid or Tropical Hexacam schemes and lacks an Urban Hexacam version.

Camouflage[]

  • Hex: Brown Hexacam camouflage pattern. Worn by Mediterranean CSAT soldiers.
  • Urban: Urban Hexacam camouflage pattern. Exclusive to CSAT's elite Guards units.
  • Green Hex: Tropical Hexacam camouflage pattern. Used by Pacific CSAT soldiers.

Notes[]

  • Due to technical limitations, units that are not actually classified as snipers will not benefit from the Ghillie variant's properties.
    • Only sniper-type classes benefit from the decreased detection range at which the wearer will be detected by both players and AI (by approximately 40% assuming no quick movements and remaining prone/motionless). However, this is only due to the internal camouflage value of their infantry class, and not because of the uniform itself.

Trivia[]

  • The design of CSAT's Fatigues is completely fictitious, but several components appear to be inspired by a few real-life technologies.
    • One such example are the suit's "mechanical" parts like the neck duct. Officially, it is meant to be an internal temperature regulating system[1] similar to the real-world "Microclimate Cooling System" developed by the U.S. military's PEO Soldier for use by helicopter/armoured ground vehicle crews.[2]
  • In the final version of ArmA 3, all conventional light infantry, vehicle crews, and recon CSAT units ubiquitously wear the Fatigues.
    • However, on a Twitch livestream event held on March 8th, 2023[3], Bohemia Interactive developer Ivan Buchta explained that the outfit was originally meant to be worn by CSAT special operations rather than conventional troops.[4] Additionally, it was also explained that what eventually became the Special Purpose Suit from the Apex expansion was intended to be the Fatigues' undersuit.[5]
    • Buchta also stated in the livestream that the Fatigues are heavily inspired by various outfits from the Dune science-fiction series of books and films.[6]
  • The model's "pants" are actually ported from the same model used for British Army troopers from ArmA 2's British Armed Forces DLC[7], though the rest of the model is originally made for ArmA 3.
  • For a brief period of time, the Fatigues' textures were temporarily changed to a Desert Hex pattern (this texture was essentially identical to the one used on Arid Hex Carryall Backpacks). Additionally, this "new" texture did not feature the iconic CSAT shoulder emblem. This change was quickly reverted after the release of Game Update 1.50.[8]
The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
  • An unused texture (Texture name: clothing_rus_co.paa) camouflaged with the AAF's Digital pattern remains hidden within the game's files, though it uniquely features a patch with the Russian flag attached to the shoulders.[9]
    • This texture was actually intended for use with the Raven Security sub-faction, a Russian private military company which was meant to appear in the pre-Alpha iterations of ArmA 3 (the faction itself does not make an appearance in the final version of the game).[10]

Prior to ArmA 3's full release, the Officer variant was adorned with several badges and shoulder boards with different logos. This texture was still available for some time during the Alpha before it was eventually replaced by a 'sanitised' version that has no iconography other than the CSAT emblem/logo.
    • These now deprecated adornments were remnants of the original 2011/2012 iterations of the main campaign's storyline. The opposing force originally comprised of Iranian paratrooper units under the command of Colonel Vahid Namdar on Limnos, the former name of Altis before the storyline was overhauled.[10][11]
    • Although the original variant is no longer present within the game files, traces of its appearance can still be seen on the Officer variant's inventory icon[12] as well as in some playable showcases.[13]
