The Truck 5T is a logistics truck featured in both ArmA: Cold War Assault and ArmA: Armed Assault.

ArmA: Cold War Assault[]

The Truck 5T is used exclusively by U.S. military forces in ArmA: Cold War Assault.

Overview[]

  • Roles:
    • Troop transport
    • Ground vehicle repair
    • Refuelling
    • Vehicle munitions rearmament
« M939 all-purpose truck entered US Army service in the 1980s and is the latest in a long line of standard issue vehicles dating back to the 1940s. Powered by an 8.3 liter 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, M939 can carry up to five tons of cargo or 11 fully equipped soldiers.

Design[]

Developed in the 1970s as an improved version of the earlier M809 series of trucks, the Truck 5T's primary function is the logistical transportation of of supplies and personnel.

It incorporates improved cooling and electrical systems, and has overall better performance when driving off-road.

Features
The Truck 5T is available in four more configurations aside from the baseline transport. These include an open-top troop transporter, fuel tanker, ammunition carrier, and a mobile repair vehicle.

Forming the mainstay of the U.S. military's logistics at the height of the Cold War, the Truck 5T is a rugged and fairly mobile utility truck.

Comparable to its Soviet counterpart in almost every way, the Truck 5T similarly serves in a non-combat role as a support vehicle.

OFP-truck5t-06

A supply convoy of Truck 5T variants.

Mobility
It has a slightly higher top speed and turn rate over the Soviet Ural. In all other handling-based aspects however, it is otherwise completely identical to the Ural and remains just as difficult to control while driving off-road.

Drawbacks
The Truck 5T lacks armour plating and does not carry any armament. It shouldn't be brought near areas where enemy forces are expected to be present, as neither the Truck 5T's passengers nor the crew will survive for long if they come under fire.

Crew Capacity
All variants of the Truck 5T regardless of configuration will support a crew of at least three. This consists of the driver and up to two more passengers who sit in cab alongside them.

Variants[]

OFP-render-truck5tcovered
Baseline variant.

The flatbed is covered with a tarpaulin which can hide troops from view (note that the tarpaulin does not provide ballistic protection).

It can transport up to twelve passengers at a time, who sit in the rear flatbed section.

OFP-render-truck5topen
Identical to the baseline transport variant but lacks the tarpaulin cover over the rear flatbed.

Transports the same number of passengers.

OFP-render-truck5trepair
Carries spare parts, tools, and additional components that can repair nearby land vehicles and grounded aircraft.

Has only three seats for the driver and two cab passengers.

OFP-render-truck5tammo
Visually similar to the Open variant but the flatbed carries supply crates instead of passengers. It can rearm nearby land vehicles and grounded aircraft.

Contains the same amount of seats as the Repair variant.

OFP-render-truck5trefuel
Has a large fuel tanker attached to the rear flatbed. It can refuel nearby land vehicles and grounded aircraft.

Contains the same amount of seats as the Repair variant.

Protection[]

All variants of the Truck 5T have 20 points worth of armour plating.

Trivia[]

  • As stated by its in-game Vehicle Description, the Truck 5T is modelled after the real-world "M939 Truck" manufactured by AM General.
    • It was commonly utilised by all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces during and after the Cold War, prior to being eventually replaced by the newer "Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement" (MTVR) tactical truck designed by Oshkosh Defense in 1999.

ArmA: Armed Assault[]

The 5T Truck is used exclusively by the U.S. Army in ArmA: Armed Assault.

Overview[]

  • Roles:
    • Troop transport
    • Ground vehicle repair
    • Refuelling
    • Vehicle munitions rearmament
« The M-939A2 truck is a five-ton capacity, six-wheel drive cargo truck used for the transportation of all types of cargo. It is capable of carrying an 11 man squad, ammunition, fuel, or replacement parts for other vehicles. A general-purpose military truck, it is designed with tactical, off-road use in mind, with a maximum road speed of 105km/h.

Design[]

The 5T Truck in Armed Assault remains mostly the same as its Cold War-era predecessor, though it features a new armed sub-variant and slightly upgraded mobility.

Features
The 5T Truck is available in five configurations besides the baseline transport. These include an open-top flatbed troop carrier, fuel tanker, ammunition carrier, mobile repair vehicle, and a heavy machine gun-armed transport.

Continuing to serve as the backbone of the U.S. military's logistical units operating on Sahrani, the Armed Assault 5T Truck fulfils the same functions and capabilities of its Cold War-era predecessors.

Mobility
The Armed Assault 5T Truck is slightly faster than its older model, and can comfortably reach a top speed of up to 86 km/h on flat surfaces (assuming it's being driven in a straight line, however).

Compared to the SLA's older Ural truck, the 5T Truck is largely similar when it comes to basic handling and has a slow turn rate.

Both are similarly difficult to control while driving off-road, though the 5T Truck has the advantage of having a higher acceleration and maximum speed (80 km/h versus the 5T Truck's maximum of 105 km/h).

Arma1-truck5t-00

With no armour plating to speak of, the crew of this 5T Truck won't be around for much longer thanks to that 40 mm grenade flying towards them.

Drawbacks
Besides the armed variant, all other variants of the 5T Truck leave both its crew and passengers completely vulnerable to small arms fire. Anti-vehicle weapons will similarly have no difficulty turning any variant of the 5T Truck into a smouldering wreck.

The tarpaulin covers offer absolutely no ballistic protection whatsoever, so having an armed escort or simply staying out of harms way entirely is preferable when operating any variant of the 5T Truck.

Crew Capacity
All variants of the 5T Truck will support a crew of at least two, consisting of the driver and a cab passenger. Depending on the configuration, other variants of the 5T Truck will support a gunner as well.

Variants[]

Arma1-render-truck5tbasic
Baseline variant.

The flatbed is covered with a tarpaulin which can hide troops from view (note that the tarpaulin does not provide ballistic protection).

It can transport up to thirteen passengers at a time who sit in the rear flatbed section (the cab passenger is considered to be the thirteenth rider). It has an item capacity of 20 spare magazines and 3 weapons, which applies to all other sub-variants based on this model as well (except for the Repair and Refuel variants).

Arma1-render-truck5topen
Identical to the baseline transport variant but lacks the tarpaulin cover over the rear flatbed.

Transports the same number of passengers.

Arma1-render-truck5trepair
Carries spare parts, tools, and additional components that can repair nearby land vehicles and grounded aircraft.

It can only transport the cab passenger and no other crew and/or riders. This variant has an item capacity of 50 spare magazines and 10 weapons.

Arma1-render-truck5tammo
Visually similar to the Repair variant but the flatbed carries supply crates instead of vehicle components. It can rearm nearby land vehicles and grounded aircraft.

Contains the same amount of seats as the Repair variant.

Arma1-render-truck5tfuel
Visually similar to the Open variant but the flatbed carries fuel barrels instead. It can refuel nearby land vehicles and grounded aircraft.

Contains the same amount of seats as the Repair variant. This variant has an item capacity of 20 spare magazines and 5 weapons.

Arma1-render-truck5tmg
Identical to the Open variant, but the cab passenger's seat has been retrofitted to make way for a turret ring fixed onto the roof above it which has an M2 .50 cal heavy machine gun mounted.

The HMG is pre-loaded with a single 100-round belt box, and has a further three more boxes to reload from (for a combined total of 400 rounds). The truck itself is identical in every other way to the regular Open truck.

Arma1-render-truck5tbasic
Visually identical to the baseline variant but cannot actually transport any troops.

It will automatically be dispatched from the closest forward base to a nearby town to increase its "supply" value.

Arma1-render-truck5topen
Visually identical to the Open variant but cannot actually transport any passengers.

It will automatically be dispatched from the closest forward base to disassemble destroyed vehicle wrecks on the battlefield.

Arma1-render-truck5tammo
Visually and functionally identical to the regular Ammo Truck variant.

(*) These variants are completely non-functional in normal gameplay and only work in Capture The Island (CTI) scenarios created with the Warfare module.
(**) This variant is intended for CTI use, though it will functional as per normal in non-Warfare missions.

Protection[]

All variants of the 5T Truck have base armour values of 25.

Body[]

The 5T Truck's hull can resist up to 25 points of damage.

Engine[]

The engine can survive 10 points of damage before failure.

Fuel tank[]

The fuel tank can only take 7.5 points of damage before rupturing.

Wheels[]

Each of the 5T Truck's tyres will burst if they take more than 3.75 points of damage.

Armament[]

Only the armed 5T Truck model retains weaponry in the form of the M2 heavy machine gun. It is mounted atop the turret ring above the truck's cab:
