« | As a last resort, Col. Guba plans to level the whole island using his heavy bombers which arrived from nearby Kolgujev. Mission Description
|
» |
Fire Fight is the final mission of ArmA: Cold War Assault's Resistance campaign.
Diary[]
« | A desperate action. But it may be the last - perhaps now we can finally end this bloody war! Gastovski's boys couldn't manage it. They didn't destroy the airport, they just stirred up the Soviets, who'll now concentrate all their forces here. Out of all the Americans, only Gastovski is still alive, but he's injured and had to hide in the house. It is up to me now... |

Overview[]
The player controls Partisan leader Victor Troska. All of Nogova has been liberated except for the main airbase where the remaining Soviet forces are located.
However, Gastovski's team was able to intercept radio communications from Aleksei Guba and discovered that he has requested for air support from Kolgujev to firebomb the entire country before he evacuates. Troska must put a stop to his genocidal plan before Nogova is wiped off the planet.
...at the cost of his own life if necessary.

Walkthrough[]
Primary 1: Get to the airport and destroy all the planes full of napalm[]
As soon as the mission begins, get ready to fight as a fireteam of Soviet riflemen are closing in on your location. They will be coming in from the north-western ridgeline (look for a large rock). Once the Soviets have been eliminated, board the UAZ and drive north-west towards the airport. Drive up the hill between grid coordinates Bj63 to Bf61 to avoid the enemy BMPs and tanks.
As soon as you crest over the top of the hill and see the airport's buildings in the distance, get out of the vehicle and look ahead. Another team of Soviet infantry will be heading your way close to Bd59, around the time Charlie Black announce that they have been ambushed. Get rid of them and then continue the rest of the way on foot.
Now comes the hard part: there are two full-sized squads protecting the runway where the bombers are parked. You don't have backup to assist you so you'll have to gun them down one by one. Remember to keep your distance and make your shots count as there's no way to resupply your SVD from the dead Soviets (none of them carry 7.62 mm magazines).

You may want to save after each successful hit with the RPG.
Once the squads have been taken out, you need to blow up the jets with your RPG launcher. Unless you are absolutely sure that you won't miss, make a save point here right away.
You only have three rockets for three jets; miss even one and you'll have to run in and plant satchels which will waste a lot of time and probably cause you to fail the mission. Reposition Troska as needed and aim a little higher than usual to account for the distance between you and each jet.
Primary 2: Hopefully, Geronimo will arrive in time with tanks and help you...[]
Once the bombers have been blown up, there's no need to do anything but to wait. Watch out for any stray Soviets if you didn't manage to get rid of them before the jets were blown up.
If all went according to plan, you will get the good ending and the campaign will be finished.
Tips[]
- Depending on your proficiency with sniping, it may be preferable to swap out your starting SVD with an AUG as the latter's low-powered riflescope is more suited to the short distances you'll be fighting in.
Trivia[]
- If you do not stop the jets in time, the alternate (non-canon) ending will play out where Nogova is successfully obliterated by Guba's bombers.
- As Gastovski states in his resignation letter to Caper Blake, Tasmanian Devil's true identity continued to remain a mystery even after the island was fully liberated.
- Somewhat tragically, Troska was able to save Nogova but never succeeded in exacting his revenge upon Guba for Liz' death.
