Force Recon are an infantry unit in ArmA: Mobile Ops.
Overview[]
- Roles:
- Saboteur specialists
- Garrisoned anti-infantry defence
« | Faster and with more firepower than common infantry Fire Team. Force Recon special unit primarily attacks operation buildings such as the Ops Centre. If there are no event buildings they can destroy the closest enemy structure is targeted. Office Description

Purpose[]
The third and second last infantry-type squad that gets unlocked at the Office, Force Recon teams are essentially faster and more powerful Fire Teams.
Strengths[]
Force Recon teams can outrun every single defensive structure that launches visible projectiles. Even the Railgun Tower is not safe from them, as even though the team will take casualties initially from the first shot (assuming it has finished powering up), they will still be able to run fast enough to evade getting shot at a second time.
Once the team gets within the minimum attack range of a defensive structure (i.e. the Mortar), its destruction is guaranteed since their explosive charges will blow it up in a matter of seconds.
When garrisoned into a Pillbox, the Force Recon team becomes a deadly anti-infantry defence. The most notable trait of a Force Recon-garrisoned Pillbox is that not only will it have double the range of a Machine Gun, but it will possess slightly more range than Autocannons, and are basically equal to that of a Drone Launchpad and Railgun Tower; without the need to power up or have a minimum attack range.
Weaknesses[]
The main drawback to Force Recon teams however, is that they aren't very good at taking down defensive structures which can fight back. While they remain fast enough to outrun Mortars and can Camouflage themselves to stay hidden for a short time, the same cannot be said for Machine Guns or powered up Drone Launchpads. Both will easily shred Force Recon teams once they reveal themselves due to their low amount of hit points.
Likewise, defensive traps like the Davy Crockett or even APERS Mines will quickly sap away at the squad's strength. And even when fully upgraded, Force Recon teams are not equipped to deal with non-visible projectile based anti-ground defences since their main weapon fires too slowly.
Usage[]
Overall, Force Recon teams work best when other friendly units such as Tracked UGVs are around to draw fire from the more powerful defences. The Force Recon teams can then be deployed mid-battle, Camouflage themselves, and sneak in to snipe buildings that would be too difficult for other ground units to reach in time.
Force Recon teams, just like with all other infantry squads, can gain veterancy bonuses over time provided that they survive a battle with at least one member of the squad alive.
Abilities[]
Camouflage[]

« | Special units can choose a stealth approach, and when they do so, they are invisible to defensive structures for 10 seconds. Ability description
|
» |
The Force Recon team becomes invisible to all ground defences and will be not detectable for 10 seconds or until they begin attacking a structure.
Camouflage is practically identical to the Hexacopter Drone's Stealth Mode ability. It does not enhance the Force Recon team's combat capabilities or cause them to move faster; it simply prevents them from being targetable by defensive structures while it remains active.
Like Stealth Mode, Camouflage has a cooldown and will not be usable by any subsequent teams that are deployed after the first one has activated the ability (at least until the cooldown resets).
Be aware that Camouflage does not prevent anti-ground traps (Davy Crocketts/APERS Mines) from triggering if a team moves near one.
Trivia[]
- Before the release of Update 1.14, Force Recon teams did not have access to the Camouflage ability and were only notable for being the fastest ground units available at the time (not including the air-only X35 Jet).[1]
- In promotional renders and screenshots, Force Recon teams are shown wielding heavily customised, black-painted versions of the MX. However, their in-game versions actually utilise the Katiba bullpup (both weapons are assault rifles from ArmA 3).
- They are also shown wearing black versions of the heavier NATO plate carriers in the same promotional renders, but their in-game counterparts wear what appears to be the unused Raven Vest instead (also from ArmA 3).
