The G8A1 is a 7.62 mm precision machine gun used exclusively by West German borderguards in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.

Overview[]

This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.

The G8A1 is a selective-fire "precision machine gun" that uses a roller-locked delayed blowback operation. It is chambered to fire the ubiquitous 7.62×51 mm cartridge.

It is able to load from the same 20-, 40-, 10-, and 5-round box magazines used by the G3 battle rifle and MSG90 sniper rifle. G8A1s have a muzzle velocity of 800 m/s and can attain a fire rate of approximately ~ 900 rounds per minute.

By default, G8A1s come fitted with a dedicated folding bipod. It is possible to mount a variety of optical sights, IR/visible laser pointers, as well as flashlights using a claw mount. The lug above the muzzle also allows for a bayonet to be fitted.

However, it is not possible to have a flashlight or laser pointer mounted at the same time with an optical sight. Likewise, since the G8A1's barrel is not threaded, a sound suppressor cannot be attached onto the muzzle.

Variants[]

G8A2[]

The G8A2 is used by West German tactical police teams and the Bundeswehr's special operations units.

It features a threaded barrel that permits the mounting of 7.62 mm sound suppressors. Other changes include a longer barrel shroud and the incorporation of a fourth selector setting, allowing the user to toggle a 3-round burst fire mode.

Due to using a different mounting system, the G8A2 does not allow for certain claw mount optics to be fitted. Another drawback is that the G8A2 no longer allows for bayonets to be mounted. Similar to the G8A1, it is also not possible to have both a flashlight/laser pointer and an optic fitted at the same time.

MG8A1[]

The MG8A1 is a light machine gun configuration of the G8. It is not utilised by any of the main factions.

Compared to the baseline G8A1 PMG, the main change with the MG8A1 is that it now feeds from 100-round linked belts stored in boxes as opposed to the G3's magazines (MG8A1s can no longer feed from the latter and vice versa for G8A1s/G8A2s).

For attachments, the MG8A1 permits the mounting of all claw mount optics, laser pointers, flashlights, bipods, and bayonets. However, it is still not possible to have both a laser pointer/flashlight and an optical sight fitted at the same time.

MG8A2[]

The MG8A2 is exclusively utilised by Danish special operations.

It shares all of the MG8A1's features and also feeds from 100-round belt boxes. The main changes are the inclusion of a threaded barrel, permitting a 7.62 mm sound suppressor to be fitted, as well as the inability to mount a bayonet nor some claw mount optics since the MG8A2 uses a different mounting system.

Like the G8A2, the MG8A2 also features a modified selector with a fourth setting, allowing the user to toggle a 3-round burst fire mode.

Ironsights[]

The ironsights on the G8A1 can be zeroed starting at a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 1,200 metres (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000, 1100, 1200). By default, it uses a zeroing of 400 metres.

Zeroing on the G8A1 is restricted to a hard cap of 1,200 metres. It is not possible to breach this limit even if an optic that allows for a higher zeroing is fitted.

The G8A1 and G8A2 are able to load up to six types of magazines. These six magazines are available in capacities of 5-, 10-, 20- and 40-round models. They all share the same Black colour scheme, though there is a single version of the 20-rounder magazine that is available with a unique Gold texture. All of these magazines can be shared with the G3 battle rifle and MSG90 sniper rifle, though they cannot be loaded into SG542s.

On the other hand, the MG8A1/MG8A2 feed exclusively from 100-round belts. These ammobelts are not interchangeable with the G8A1/G8A2 and vice versa.
