Girna was a settlement located on the island of Stratis in the Republic of Altis and Stratis.

Overview[]

A remote fishing village[1], Girna comprises of several stone/brick-walled homes along with a small pier. It stretches out into the Girna Bay, but its shallow depths and rocky bed make it ill-suited to anything larger than motorboats. Girna is only accessible via the gravel road which runs along the ridge to the south.

Since the end of the civil war, the remainder of Girna's populace have been resettled onto the mainland[2] and its dwellings have continued to remain abandoned as of August 15th, 2035.

However, the village did suffer significant damage after being struck by an airstrike on July 7th. Much of the village only stands as burnt-out rubble.[3]

History[]

Death Valley

Remnants of TF Aegis move into Girna to rescue their trapped allies (2035)

Following the unprovoked attack against the peacekeepers of NATO's Task Force Aegis, a group of survivors barricaded themselves inside the village after government forces ambushed and encircled their position.[4]

They were relieved after other survivors moved in to drive off the attacking troopers, though they were momentarily pinned again by mortars until the spotters were eliminated. In response, an airstrike was ordered against the village.[3] However, all the survivors were able to flee before most of Girna was razed by bombs.[5]

Several hours later, the AAF regrouped at the village in preparation for an offensive to destroy the NATO survivors once and for all.[6] However, before the AAF could fully mobilise, a NATO strike team raided the village and succeeded in assassinating the officer in charge. Reinforcements from Camp Tempest were quickly dispatched[7] but they were too late to intercept the strike force.[8]

Trivia[]

  • Despite being destroyed by the AAF airstrike in Death Valley, the village's buildings are inexplicably "restored" for the events of Wet Work, which canonically takes place after the events of the former mission.[9]

Unfortunately, Bravo ran into trouble, taking contact in a village a little to the west of our position. They're pinned down and need our support. An advanced element has already set up a position nearby to get eyes on the situation. AAF units have mobilized along the valley leading to the village. More support is no doubt en route. Alpha will approach from the east. Use the high ground and forest to your advantage. Clear the village and get our boys out of there."

While we're not yet in a position to hold the ground we took - and despite being forced to retreat - we managed to adapt to the situation on the ground and strike another blow against the AAF."
  6. ARMA 3 2013 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., The East Wind, Wet Work, "Recon reports indicate that the AAF will make a push south in the next few hours. It appears they're keen to lock down the area around Girna. Intel suggests that the highest-ranking officer on Stratis will himself be in the area. Neutralizing him will deal a serious blow to our enemy. Decapitating their command structure may even signal an end to this whole situation. We simply cannot let this opportunity pass us by. Now, we've come up with a plan of action. My team has a submersible stashed just off the west coast. That's why we asked for volunteers - those with diving experience. One of my men will use it to lead a small team and insert just north of Girna. Meanwhile, Bravo will circle around and take up a position to the south. Once both teams are in place, we close the trap."

  8. ARMA 3 2013 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., The East Wind, Wet Work, "You managed to clear the town and successfully neutralized a high-ranking enemy officer. Unfortunately, it was not our intended target, Goblin. While the loss of this commander won't go unnoticed among the AAF, it was not the decisive blow we were looking for. Instead, we may have just kicked the hornet's nest."
