Grimm is a main character in ArmA 3's Apex Protocol campaign.

Background[]

Grimm is a member of NATO's multi-national black ops unit, the Combat Technology Research Group (CTRG).

He serves as the marksman and supporting team leader of Group 15 - Team 1; better known by its designation of Raider 1.

For direct communications, he was referred to by his radio callsign of Raider 1-2.

Apex Protocol (2035)[]

Operating under the cover provided by the ongoing joint-NATO/Gendarmerie "Safe Horizon" exercises, Group 15 are able to quietly infiltrate into the South Pacific nation of the Horizon Islands.

Supported by a second team callsigned Raider 2, both Raider teams were officially dispatched to hunt down the warlord - given the codename of "Warlock", of a local insurgent group who called themselves the Syndikat.

Unofficially however, they were actually sent to locate the whereabouts of a package called "Keystone", who was vital to the success of their operation.

Grimm, Truck, Salvo and Raider 1's team leader Riker, first landed on the shores of southern islands of Tanoa where they began searching the nearby Syndikat hideouts for signs of Keystone's location.

CTRG is informed the next day by their local contact called Blue Cap, of a Syndikat convoy that was planning to raid a nearby village. Both Raider teams moved into position to ambush the insurgents. When Raider 2 arrived at the ambush site, Riker briefed both teams on their plan of attack.

« Feel free to throw down your own stuff. Just keep it low profile, yeah? And hit the convoy before they reach the stop line.

Grimm would be supported by Raider 2 and had to wait along the main road to block the convoy's rear while Riker, Truck and Salvo, set up position in the front. After it passed through, Raider 2 commenced the ambush while Grimm and the others boxed in its lead vehicles, wiping out the remainder of the convoy.

Hoping to lure the elusive Warlock out into the open, Grimm and the rest of the Raider teams then proceeded deeper into the central regions of the main island to continue their hunt for Syndikat's weapons caches. Aided by Blue Cap's intel, the Raider teams are able to raze all of the weapons caches, dealing a significant blow against the insurgents.

Blue Cap then provided new intel to CTRG, this time on the possible location of Warlock himself. He was apparently hiding at one of his hideouts at the village of Namuvaka, but wasn't going to remain there for long. Grimm and the rest of Raider moved to intercept the warlord before he could disappear again.

However instead of finding Warlock, Grimm and the others only discovered the motionless body of what appeared to be Blue Cap himself. Both teams also suddenly come under attack by unknown assailants and are forced to defend themselves. Fortunately, both Raider teams are able to come out ahead, though they still possessed no idea on who their attackers were.

But there was no time to investigate their identities for now. New intel had been obtained on Keystone's whereabouts, and Group 15 were to immediately proceed to Keystone's location. Once they arrived at the safehouse, Grimm and the others proceeded to breach the building. They discovered that "Keystone" was none other than Group 14's Captain Scott Miller, whom Grimm and the others had thought went "dark" after Group 14's apparent loss on the Republic of Altis and Stratis.

Before Miller could be debriefed, they first had to get him off the island as Syndikat were closing in from all directions to intercept the Raider teams. However, their extraction helicopter takes heavy fire and is forced to abort its land. Grimm suggested instead that they return to take the same boats they had infiltrated with. With Raider 2 leading the way, Grimm and the others successfully fight their way back to the boats and extract with Miller intact.

Miller begins his debriefing and informs Grimm and the others that their unknown attackers were actually CSAT special operations, a black ops unit similar to CTRG that had embedded itself within the Syndikat. They were a part of a wider CSAT-concocted conspiracy involving a weapon of mass destruction known only as "Eastwind", which Miller suspected was responsible for causing the South Pacific Disaster in the first place.

At risk of being exposed by CTRG, Miller knew that Viper were planning to shut down their operation soon. If they were to have any chance to retrieving Eastwind, they had to find Viper's main "black site" where the WMD was presumably located soon.

Grimm and the Raider teams proceeded straight to Sosovu Island in the region's north-west. Landing on its shores, they proceeded to search Viper hideouts one by one, but only discovered the site of one massacre after another. For unclear reasons, Syndikat and Viper had turned on each other, though Grimm and the others suspected that Warlock had found out information on Eastwind and was planning to seize it for himself.

« Riker: I doubt Viper would invite a bunch of thugs to run around their FOB.
Grimm: Sounds like Syndikat are pissed off.

Miller later locates the primary black site and calls for Group 15 to zero in on his position. Eastwind was nowhere to be found, but vital documents on CSAT's so-called "Apex Protocol" were obtained by Grimm and the others.

Some good news finally arrives when CTRG SIGINT intercepts communications between Viper and Warlock. They were planning to arrange a deal on Eastwind's handover at the Blue Pearl Industrial Port on the main island's far north-east. Grimm and the Raider teams rushed to the port to finish off the rogue leader once and for all.

Miller sabotaged the port's power supply, while Grimm and Raider 1 (supported by Raider 2) managed to assassinate Warlock. They subsequently retrieved the primary disarm key to halt Eastwind's activation process, which had already been primed by Warlock moments before his death. Fighting their way through the remaining insurgents, both Raider teams discovered Eastwind on the far corner of the harbour.

Miller also arrived and began working on disarming the device, using both the secondary disarm key he had retrieved and Raider 2's primary key. He was left exposed while disarming the device however, and Viper were also moving to forcibly retake Eastwind. Grimm and the others quickly established a defensive perimeter around the Captain to cover him - for however long it would take to deactivate Eastwind.

Wave after wave of Viper operatives attacked, and Group 15 was just about to be overrun when a friendly helicopter transporting the members of Group 14 suddenly arrive to lay down suppressive fire. Thanks to their help, the last of the Viper assault force is wiped out, and Miller suceeds in disarming Eastwind.

Along with the rest of Raiders 1 and 2, Grimm is extracted to safety by helicopter - with Eastwind being quickly towed away by another helicopter.

Personality and Appearance[]

Grimm is a white male with a beardless face and a completely shaved head. He wears a white/dark green-coloured undershirt with Tropic Dazzle-camouflaged pants like the rest of his team, and dons a ranger green-coloured plate carrier vest. For headwear and eyewear (respectively), he prefers an olive cap with a tactical headset attached along with tactical shades.

Grimm appears to be the most level-headed member of Raider 1, and is largely disinterested by Truck and Salvo's bickering and constant shenanigans. He always remains focused on getting the job done and in contrast to the boisterous Salvo, remains calm and collected even in the most precarious of situations.
