The Heavy Combat Helmet is a ballistic-resistant helmet used by CSAT Quick Reaction Force (QRF) units in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Reaction Forces Creator DLC.

Overview[]

The Heavy Combat Helmet is worn primarily by CSAT's Quick Reaction Force (QRF) teams. The HCH is rated at Level V protection standards, has a weight of 50 "mass" units[CfgWp 1][CfgWp 2], and is available in two variants that either have its ballistic visor lowered or raised.

The HCH offers the same degree of ballistic and blast protection to its wearer's head as the Defender Helmet while also being lighter to wear. Provided that the wearer is at full "health", they can consistently survive being struck at point blank range by an intermediate rifle round (6.5 mm/7.62 mm).

HCHs with lowered visors also have the added benefit of providing facial protection that is comparable to that of the Protector Helmet. The visor can turn what would otherwise be lethal damage from a single 6.5 mm rifle/9 mm pistol bullet to the face into a less-than-lethal one.

In this regard, the HCH is essentially a Special Purpose Helmet in almost every aspect aside from its name and appearance. Though the tradeoff that the HCH has against the SPH is its lack of integrated night/thermal vision, the HCH makes up for it by being approximately ~ 46% "mass" lighter in comparison.

Variants[]

No Visor[]

The No Visor sub-variant features only the shell with no protective visor.

In terms of protection, it remains unchanged from the baseline HCH, save for the obvious lack of facial protection since the ballistic visor isn't present. As a result of not having it installed, however, the No Visor variant is slightly lighter and weighs 5 "mass" units less (45 versus the former's 50).[CfgWp 3]

Camouflage[]

  • Black: All-black colour scheme.
  • Green Hex: Tropic Hexacam pattern.
  • Hex: Arid Hexacam pattern.
  • Olive: Olive green colour scheme.
  • Sand: Desert tan colour scheme.
  • White: Pale white colour scheme.

It should be noted that regardless of whether the visor is installed or not, all Heavy Combat Helmets retain access to the same camouflage options.

Trivia[]

  • The Heavy Combat Helmet in Reaction Forces is based on the Soviet/Russian-made "Altyn" series of helmets.[1][2]
  • After Update 1.0.2's release, textures for the Green Hex and Arid Hex camouflage schemes were changed to be less flat compared to their original appearance at launch.[3]
