The Helmet PSH-77 is a ballistic-resistant helmet used by both West German and East German tactical police teams in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.

Overview[]

A crash helmet of Swiss origins, it is primarily made out of titanium and is the standard-issue headgear of the German Federal Police's elite Grenzschutzgruppe 9 (GSG 9) unit, as well as the Volkspolizei's Diensteinheit IX (DIX) teams.

The shell is normally uncovered, but alternate sub-variants have a camouflage cover applied. An optional protective faceshield is also available, though it does not provide any protection to the wearer's face since it isn't lowered.

PSH-77s without a faceshield have a weight of 10 "mass" units while those that have one fitted (but are not lowered) weigh 40 "mass" units instead. Regardless of the faceshield's inclusion, PSH-77s are rated at Level I protection standards.

Variants[]

Shield[]

The Shield variant is fitted with a protective faceshield. Unlike baseline PSH-77s, the Shield variant is specifically rated at Level III protection standards and provides superior ballistic protection to small arms fire and indirect explosions.

At full "health", the wearer can consistently survive being hit directly in the head by a single 5.45 mm/5.56 mm rifle round. The helmet itself (not the faceshield) is even more durable against pistol calibre cartridges, allowing the wearer to withstand up to four 9 mm bullets at point blank range.

However, this impressive ballistic protection does come at a cost of being three times as heavy as the basic PSH-77 with no raised faceshield. The faceshield is also not capable of allowing the wearer to survive being hit at point blank range since it is intended to reduce damage from explosions as opposed to bullets. For ballistic damage, it will only be survivable if the wearer is shot in the face at distances beyond 100-200 metres.
