Mission Description
»

Hold Malden is the eleventh mission of ArmA: Cold War Assault's Cold War Crisis campaign.

Diary[]

« These Russians are unbelievable! I'm amazed they have the guts to attack Malden - it's NATO-controlled territory. Word is there's enemy troops all over the South of the island. Sounds like those SpezNatz soldiers were some kind of advance unit, and the main offensive will begin today.

What the hell is going on here?

Overview[]

The player controls U.S. Army infantryman Corporal David Armstrong. Malden is under attack by unknown forces. Armstrong and all available NATO troops have been mobilised to defend the coast against seemingly endless waves of invaders.

Armstrong's role/class:

  • Infantry / Rifleman

Default loadout:

  • Primary weapon: M16A2 (4× magazines)
  • Secondary weapon: None
  • Equipment: Binoculars, Grenades (6×)

There are no alternate pieces of equipment to choose from.

Objectives[]

Primary[]

  • (1) Go to the port and engage the enemy
  • (2) Fight off the invasion force
  • (3) Retreat to the north!

Optional[]

N/A

Mandatory[]

  • Armstrong must survive
  • Avoid collateral damage/friendly fire (point score must not drop below 601)
  • Remain within the combat area

Walkthrough[]

Primary 1: Go to the port and engage the enemy[]

Follow your squad and head due south towards the coastal port at La Riviere. You will be immediately thrown into combat, so get set to engage the moment you spot enemies.

When your squad leader tells you to do so, hop into the heavy machine gun turret set up inside a sandbag bunker. Open fire on everything that you see (watch out for friendly fire). Dismount from the HMG when necessary for a quick heal from your squad medic if you're injured.

Primary 2: Fight off the invasion force[]

Eventually however, your squad leader will spot incoming enemy tanks/helicopters and order you to fall back to a different position further north. You'll be bombarded by cannon fire, so quickly relocate with your remaining squad members and take cover behind the bushes and sandbag walls.

Continue engaging whatever hostiles you spot approaching from the shore, but don't get too carried away - remember, you cannot "complete" this objective.

Primary 3: Retreat to the north![]

No matter how well you've fought off the Soviets, you will be ordered to pull back from the coast. Follow your squad and head straight for the objective at coordinates Cj82. Be on the lookout for more paratroopers; they will be continuously airdropped until you get away so don't take too long in getting to the evacuation zone.

The mission will be complete once you arrive at the designated point.

Tips[]

  • Don't hesitate to shower the invading enemies with HMG fire. You have plentiful ammunition to handle the first wave, and you'll be ordered to pull back from the position soon afterwards regardless.
