The Hunting Rifle is a 7.62 mm sniper rifle used by the EFA and their Nogovan Partisan predecessors in ArmA: Cold War Assault.
Overview[]
The Hunting Rifle is a bolt-action sniper rifle with a rotating bolt that is chambered to fire the 7.62×51 mm NATO round.
It loads from 6-round internal magazines[CfgWp 4], and can attain fire rate of only 30 rounds per minute[CfgWp 5][Formula 1] with a muzzle velocity of 900 m/s.[CfgWp 6] The Hunting Rifle is always fitted with a 5x riflescope.[CfgWp 7][CfgWp 8]
Primarily wielded by guerilla snipers, the Hunting Rifle is essentially a commercial civilian hunting weapon converted into a sniper rifle. It has an effective range of between 500-600 metres, making it a fairly decent sniper weapon in spite of its intended purpose.
However, because it uses a bolt-action operation the Hunting Rifle has an extremely low rate of fire.[Formula 1] Combined with its already small magazine capacity[CfgWp 1], this makes the Hunting Rifle an objectively inferior weapon compared to mil-spec sniper rifles like the U.S. M21 or Soviet SVD in every aspect. Even though its 7.62 mm ammunition technically has better stopping power than the M21/SVD[CfgAm 1], its low ROF and magazine capacity negate this advantage.
Optics[]

The Hunting Rifle does not have ironsights and only allows the user to aim through its 5x zoom scope.[CfgWp 7][CfgWp 8]

The Hunting Rifle only supports one type of "magazine".[CfgWp 4] Each magazine will require at least one[CfgWp 9] free inventory slot to carry:
Hunting Rifle Mag.[]
Standard 6-round internal magazine loaded with 7.62 mm ball ammunition.[CfgWp 10]
Its bullets have a spill radius of 0.05 metres upon impact.[CfgAm 3]
Trivia[]
- Cold War Assault's Hunting Rifle is directly based on the real-world "Model 700" rifle designed by the U.S-based Remington Arms Company, LLC of Madison, North Carolina.
- However, the in-game Hunting Rifle's bolt handle is oddly located facing the left side of the weapon instead.
- The Hunting Rifle was not actually included as part of the default set of weapons that could be used in Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (the initial release name of Cold War Assault) and was only added with the Resistance expansion pack[2] (specifically in Patch 1.85[1]).
