« Victor Troska manages to flee from Lipany, Nogovan capital, and hides at home.
Mission Description
»

Invasion is the first mission of ArmA: Cold War Assault's Resistance campaign.

Overview[]

The player controls a civilian named Victor Troska. For Nogovan judge and police chief Victor Troska, the 21st August 1982 was supposed to be the start of another routine day at the courthouse.

Yet in the midst of this quiet morning, the faint rumbling of vehicle tracks and helicopter rotors can strangely be heard echoing in the distance...

Troska's role/class:

  • Infantry / Civilian

Default loadout:

  • Primary weapon: None
  • Secondary weapon: None
  • Equipment: None

The briefing loadout menu is not available for this mission.

Objectives[]

Primary[]

  • (1) The office
  • (2) Leave the city

Optional[]

N/A

Mandatory[]

  • Troska must survive

Walkthrough[]

Primary 1: The office[]

You need to get to the courthouse in the capital city, Lipany. How you get there is entirely up to you after Troska's friend drops him off at the bus stop in Petrovice (there are four possible routes):

Bus trip[]

A bus is scheduled to arrive at 7:35AM (see the sign post for the timetable). If this is your first foray into the ArmA series, take advantage of this moment to get familiar with the movement and camera controls. You can also go into the nearby apartments and climb up or down ladders and perform basic actions. Just don't mess around for too long though as the bus will eventually arrive.

Once it does get to the bus stop, board the vehicle and you'll be transported to the capital city, Lipany. Dismount once the bus arrives at the capital and head for the central square where the large fountain is. Walking inside the courthouse (the large structure with double doors) will trigger another cutscene and completion of your first objective.

Troska's motorbike[]

Another of Troska's friends has left his fixed motorbike directly across the road from the bus stop behind the wall. However, it doesn't have much petrol left and needs to be refuelled first. Fortunately, a petrol station can be found at grid coordinates Eb60 so make a quick stopover there first before heading to the capital.

Follow the main road east and cross the bridge at Davle until you get to a T-junction on the eastern end of the island (at the village of Lany). Turn south and drive directly towards the courthouse.

On foot[]

More of a joke route rather than something to seriously consider taking, you can also choose to run (on foot) all the way to the capital city.

Since you have several kilometres to traverse, be sure to use time acceleration (Default hotkeys: -/+) to speed the game up for your own sanity's sake. Once you get inside the courthouse it'll be objective complete.

Hitchhiking[]

OFP-mission-invasion-00

If you miss the bus, drove in the wrong direction or wasted too much time clowning about climbing ladders in the apartments, you will automatically be forced into a cutscene where Troska hitches a ride from a stranger to get to the capital.

Primary 2: Leave the city[]

Contrary to what your "delightful" comrades are saying over the loudspeakers, they have not come to Nogova for peaceful purposes. You need to get out of the capital by "borrowing" either one of the parked cars, bikes or trucks.

Head north along the main road and try to avoid crashing into anything along the way. There is no restriction so as long as you get out as quickly as possible before the Soviets completely lock down the entire city.

Trivia[]

  • It is technically possible (although strongly ill-advised) to eliminate all of the invading Soviet troops at the capital by running over one of the squads with a vehicle of your choice and stealing their weapons.
    • It goes completely against Troska's personality (at this point in the story) and it is not intended that he fight the Soviets yet, however. Furthermore, it is a fruitless waste of time and effort as none of the gear you salvage for this mission can be carried onto the rest of the campaign (such as CZ 75 pistols on the police officers).
    • Keep in mind that merely picking up a weapon will have the Soviets instantly consider Victor a hostile.
