Ioannina (Altian: Ιωάννινα) is a settlement located on the island of Altis in the Republic of Altis and Stratis.
Overview[]
A small rundown village located in the island's north-east, Ioannina is situated to the west of Delfinaki and along the (dried up) saltwater lake of Almyra.[1]
The road running through it can be used to reach the abandoned Ghost Hotel to its north-west. Surrounded by tall reeds and bushes, there are no notable landmarks in Ioannina save for the chapel in the centre and a petrol station built along the main highway.
The village suffered minor damage in the closing stages of the NATO invasion of Altis but remained otherwise intact in the aftermath of the war.[2]
History[]
On August 10th, 2035[3], remnants of the AAF's 1st Regiment fortified the village and made their last stand as U.S.-led NATO forces continued their advance north-east.[2] Their leader, Colonel Georgious Akhanteros, had ordered them to buy as much time as possible for their CSAT allies to evacuate their personnel out of the country.[4]
Shortly afterwards, Col. Akhanteros would issue a statement to the NATO commander, announcing that the AAF would unconditionally surrender and ordered his remaining troops to stand down.[3][5][6]
The 1st Regiment's units paid a heavy price for the defence and suffered severe casualties from a combination of NATO artillery and airstrikes.[2] Both the 1st Platoon and 5th Platoon were almost completely annihilated, leaving only a handful of survivors who were promptly taken as POWs.[6]
Facilities[]
Petrol station[]
The Altis-based Fuel company operates a service station near the village. It is built at the intersection with the main highway at grid 233-198.
Trivia[]
- Ioannina's real-world counterpart on the island of Lemnos, Greece, is the settlement of Agios Alexandros.
