« | The Kord is a Russian heavy machine gun. This weapon entered service in 1998 and replaced the older NSV machine gun. At first glance the Kord resembles the NSV but it provides greater accuracy during sustained fire. The Kord uses 12.7x108 mm cartridges and has a rate of fire of about 750 rpm with an effective range of 2000m. | » |
The KORD is a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun used by several REDFOR and INDFOR factions in ArmA 2.
Overview[]
The KORD is a static heavy machine gun turret. It is chambered to fire the 12.7×108 mm cartridge.
It can attain a fire rate of up to ~ 697 rounds per minute[CfgWp 3][Formula 1] and has a muzzle velocity of 850 m/s.[CfgMa 2] The KORD is not fitted with optical sights and only provides its user with a simple ironsight to aim with. Static KORDs always have access to a total pool of 200 rounds stored separately in four ammoboxes.[CfgVh 1] It takes 6 seconds to reload the KORD with a fresh belt of ammo.[CfgWp 4]
The KORD's multipurpose mount allows the turret to be freely rotated in any direction horizontally.[CfgVh 2][CfgVh 3] However, when it comes to vertical rotation, it is limited to a maximum elevation of 70 degrees[CfgVh 4] and a depression of just 7 degrees.[CfgVh 5] KORDs can be disassembled into a man-portable backpack form consisting of both the weapon and its multipurpose mount. Both components are required in order to reconstruct the turret.[CfgVh 6]
Variants[]
KORD Minitripod[]
The KORD Minitripod has the KORD HMG mounted onto a lowered tripod. Compared to the standard KORD that utilises a multipurpose mount, the KORD Minitripod shares the exact same loadout (200 rounds split across four ammoboxes)[CfgVh 7] but is fitted onto a low-mount tripod instead.
The tripod imposes more restrictive traverse limits as horizontal rotation is capped to just 60 degrees in either direction.[CfgVh 8][CfgVh 9] On the other hand, the tripod does allow the gunner to adjust vertical rotation a little more freely; allowing for a depression of 20 degrees[CfgVh 10] as opposed to the raised KORD's 7 degrees (elevation remains unchanged at 70 degrees[CfgVh 11]).
Just like the baseline raised KORD turret, the KORD Minitripod can also be disassembled into a man-portable backpack form. However, it should be noted that the KORD Minitripod's weapon backpack is not interchangeable with raised KORDS (i.e. the KORD Minitripod cannot be converted into a high-mount KORD and vice versa).[CfgVh 12]

KORDs can load up to two[note 3] types of "magazines":[CfgWp 5]
50Rnd[]
Standard 50-round belt box used by static KORDs, loaded with a mix of 12.7 mm ball and green tracer ammunition.[CfgMa 3]
Every third round fired will emit visible green tracer.[CfgMa 4] The last five rounds of the belt always consist exclusively of tracers.[CfgMa 5]
150Rnd[]
150-round belt box used by vehicle-mounted KORDs (specifically on the T-90 and T-72M4 CZ tanks). Aside from its increased capacity, it remains identical to the regular 50-round belts.[CfgMa 6]
This magazine is not available to static KORDs by default and can only be "loaded" into them through the use of scripting commands.
Trivia[]
- Like all pre-Operation Arrowhead static heavy weapons, Russian KORDs cannot be disassembled. Only Takistani and UN-operated KORD HMGs can be broken down into a backpack form.
- This is because the ability to dismantle/reassemble static weapons was only added with the release of the expansion pack and was not retroactively applied to the original ArmA 2 static weapons (as none of the pre-expansion pack units are able to carry backpacks in the first place).
- Due to its high elevation limit, the KORD Minitripod's tripod will visibly clip into the barrel when it is elevated too high.
- Prior to Patch 1.05, an issue with memory points on the KORD's model would prevent players from being able to man the HMG (AI-controlled units were not affected, however).[3]
- Russian military-operated KORDs are incorrectly referred to by its manufacturer name instead of by its GRAU index code of 6P57 (lowered tripod model) and 6P59 (for the raised tripod version).[4]

Notes[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Dexterity is defined within the weapon's config but it does not apply since the KORD is a static turret.
- ↑ Damage will be reduced if the projectile's velocity drops below this value.
- ↑ Unless stated otherwise, static KORD turrets only utilise 50-round "magazines". The high-capacity 150-round belt "magazines" are only used by the T-90 and T-72M4 CZ Main Battle Tanks (specifically for the tank's commander MG).
