The L-39C is a sub-variant of the L-39ZA. Like its parent, it can be used in a close air support role but is mainly designed for pilot training.

Features
It is available in two variants: an unarmed model that is designed exclusively for flight training and a second armed variant that is fitted with a 23 mm cannon loaded with 150 rounds of high-explosive (HE) ammunition.

It is also armed with a 57 mm rocket pod under each wing which have 64 rockets loaded in total (32 per pod). Aside from whether it is armed or not and the obvious aesthetic differences, there are no functional changes between the L-39C and the L-39ZA.

Drawbacks
As a result, both aircraft share the same strengths and vulnerabilities of lacking any guided weaponry (in the case of the armed version) and having no defensive avionics whatsoever. The L-39C is also slower by a slight margin, though this difference is negligible given the capabilities of both jets.

Crew Capacity
The L-39C only contains a single seat for the pilot themselves. It is unable to transport any passengers or crewmen.

Variants[]

L-39ZA[]

Main article: L-39ZA

Camouflage[]

  • Arid: Standard desert tan paint scheme with olive green camouflage blobs.
  • Grey: Two-tone grey paint scheme. Only used by the unarmed L-39C.

Protection[]

The L-39C has a base armour value of 60.

Hull[]

The L-39C's hull can only withstand 60 points of damage. Depletion of the hull's integrity will instantly result in a total loss.

Armament[]

The pilot exclusively controls all weapon systems on the armed L-39C:

GSh-23L[]

NOTE: Only available on the armed variant.

Base damage value Aerodynamic friction Initial velocity (m/s)
45 -0.000824 830

23 mm autocannon. Fires HE/AP-type shells useful for direct air-to-ground fire support or Within Visual Range (WVR) dogfights.

The GSh-23L can attain a fire rate of up to ~ 1,500 rounds per minute has a muzzle velocity of 830 m/s. It has an effective firing range of approximately 1,250 metres and accuracy-wise, retains a dispersion of 0.0006 rad. The shells have a splash radius of just 0.2 metres.

S-5[]

NOTE: Only available on the armed variant.

Damage type Base damage value Maximum speed (m/s)
High-Explosive 150 580

Unguided air-to-ground rockets. Strong against groups of infantry and unarmoured ground vehicles.

Rockets are always fired in pairs. The pods have a firing delay of 0.08 seconds in-between volleys (750 RPM) and are launched with an initial velocity of 44 m/s. They take a further 1.1 seconds to reach a top speed of 580 m/s in mid-flight.

The warheads are high-explosive (HE) based and have a blast radius of 12 metres.

Avionics[]

MAWS[]

The L-39C does not have a Missile Approach Warning System and will not warn the pilot of incoming missiles already in mid-flight.

RWR[]

The L-39C does not possess a Radar Warning Receiver and cannot alert the pilot of being locked-onto by radar-based targeting systems.

IWR[]

The L-39C lacks an Infrared Warning Receiver, and will not warn the pilot of being targeted by infrared-based weapon systems.

Trivia[]

  • Like its parent model, the L-39C has the same tandem cockpit setup like the real L-39 but cannot actually carry any other crew members other than the pilot themselves.
